Need help with serious mod bug (Missing 1st person view)

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:20 pm

1st Person character models of my mod'd vampirerace are now missinge. Weapons and spell effects are visible, but the character model and armor, etc,. are missing after CK update and saving MOD.

Seems this issue is CK related. Please read post 4 below.

OK... I have been able to take an older version of my mod (last night) and test and it's fine. I then load it in the new CK that was released today and save it back out (no changes) and I can reproduce the issue. It just happened to be a matter of co-incidence that I was working on invisibility bugs at the same time... but... why is this happening now? Most of my saves are vampires, and I have made changes to the vampire race in my mod, but why would just opening the mod in the CK and re-saving cause this to happen?

I repeat....This has affected ALL savegames as long as my mod is loaded and nothing code wise has changed in the mod from prior to when it started and now and it's affecting ALL save games across the board and I cannot figure out how to fix it or even where to start. Has anyone run into something like this before?

Are you sure it's actually your save game files that are the problem? Have you quit the game and restarted?

I have found that loading a save does not wipe out all settings... Bethesda/Skyrim retains things in memory and maybe that is what's screwed up and not your saves. This is NOT the way I would have expected Bethesda to handle loading a game, but this is reality.

So, to repeat, quit the game and restart and test again.

No, it's not the save games... the problem happens across all my save games but it's not the saves themselves, it's my mod. Exiting the game, restarting and loading a save that has never had the problem, not even the same character (but is a vampire) now has the problem.

Let me clarify. I have a version of the mod I released/backed up last night. 1.2.8. I put it in the data directory and load the game and it's ok. That file is 596KB. I open it up in the CK, and just hit SAVE, the file grows to 621KB.

I then load any save game and I have the problem. It's only characters from the Vampire Races (which I have admittedly modified). But quite literally in the steps above, I've done nothing but load it into the CK and hit SAVE.

Edit: This has only started happening as of the CK getting updated today. 3rd Person is fine, only 1st person is affected.

Okay, that makes more sense... so the new version of the CK is causing the problem... and I just downloaded it :S

Solar,

Try an experiment for me. Pick a race that you have a savegame for. Open the CK and just, say...delete one of the racial abilities/specials and save the mod. Then load the mod w/savegame. Does it break for you? I promise if you uncheck the mod it'll work again.

Literally it seems anything as innocuous as removing a spell from the race can break 1st person view. I cleaned my mod of edits against the races and 1st person returned. I then made that simple edit above and the problem came back.

I would love some confirmation that it's not just me.

Okay mofomojo,

I tried this:
Opened CK, loaded Skyrim.ESM.
Removed the Breton racial trait
Saved making a new ESP
Loaded a clean (no other mods ever installed, Lvl 1 character) save game with a Breton
Looked fine in first person, went out to 3rd person, looked fine
Readied a spell, went to first person and I see the problem - I can see the spells glowing in my hands, but I can't see my hands or arms

So I don't think it's just you.

Thanks for taking the time Sollar! I need to be able to continue on my mod, so I've just....depressingly....removed all the racial edits out. It'll only take an hour to put them back once this is worked out. Thank you so much!
