This PC decent enough for modding?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 3:48 pm

I feel pretty stupid for making this thread but the search bar isn't helping me at all. So I wanted to get into modding and i'm getting a PC soonish that i'm sure can run Skyrim okay, I just wanted to ask if it could run mods and make mods okay with the creation kit.

Specs:

Processor: i5 2320 3.00 GHz quad core
RAM: 8GB
Graphics: AMD HD 6670 2GB
Hard drive: 2TB

Any help would be great, i'm not too good with this stuff :P

It is. I'm on a i5 with 4x3.20 Ghz, 8GB Ram and a NVidia 560 with 1 GB Ram.

As long as you're able to run the game in ultra settings, you do not need to be concerned about the CK.

I'm working on an old 2gb ram pc .... works fine, I do get the occasional error popup 'failed to queue up texture xxxxx' but it doesn't seem to really affect anything ;-)

Jesus 2TB hard drives?

Do you really need that?

Your PC is more than good enough for modding (you can actually mod on a pretty [censored] PC even if you can't play Skyrim very well), but that video card is somewhat mid-range and not that great (it's not bad, but don't expect to run newer games higher than medium settings smoothly - Skyrim will be mostly fine though).

So instead of spending $100 on an extra terabyte of space that you'll only need if you render lots of uncompressed video files, put it twoards a better video card and/or CPU (your CPU is also not that bad but an i5 2500k will give you much more bang for your buck if you can get into it's price range). Even then when making 10+ minute videos for youtube at HD resolution I can manage just fine with the 40 or so GB of freespace I have on my main hard drive.
