Followers won't follow me inside

Hi,

I've made a house. I've made the interior. I've nav meshed it. I've finalised the navmesh. So why oh why will my followers follow me inside the house? What have I done wrong, please?

I know this probably isn't it, but when you finalized, did you look to see if a green triangle generated near the door?
Also, you need to finalize the navmesh outside the door as well.

What Ducey said ...

If not ...

Have you set any ownership of the house/cell? (have you made it a location, or a child of an existing location ... is an element in the parent chain owned and by what/who)?
Is your house using a "normal" (vanilla) load-door?

(Can't think of much else ... Try Ducey suggestion first, cos it's usually that)

I tried again this morning and now I get this message "PATHFINDING: Finalize NavMesh: Teleport marker for door WRDragonDoor01 (xxx) in cell RiverwoodHouse is not sitting on a navmesh" yet there is a green triangle in front of the door. I used the "Automatically generate [Recast] NavMesh" mode so what did I do wrong, please?

Is the Yellow Box - where the actor actually appears when using the door - on that green triangle?

I would shift the Yellow Box a bit, and finalise the navmesh again. If that works, move it around (and finalise, again) to more like where you want it

Neither, just the standard red and no matter how many times I navmesh it, whether by hand or automatic generation, I do not get a green box near the door. The green triangle I referred to turned out to be because I had the triangle selected.

Have you navmeshed the exterior cell?

If you haven't DON'T (unless you made massive changes, in which case you will have to Finalise). And if you already did finalise the exterior navmesh, then you may or may not be into the Navmesh Issue (I haven't looked at the state of that bug in a while - Search will find you the very latest on the state of that)

Other than that ... no Green triangle, no NPC to use door.

Have you tried using the same door that is used for the wiki tutorial? If not, swap your doors for that one and see if it works (just a thought)

Have you navmeshed the exterior cell?

Yes and now the game crashes when I approach the exterior door. As for different doors, no to the tutorial door but yes, I have used alternative doors. I've also created other buildings and navmeshed them without this problem so I'm wondering if it's a 1.6 issue? Has the CK been updated yet? If not, would that matter in this case?

I stopped using the CK while it went through the update (and rollback) phase - luckily, I just never started it during that brief time - so IDK if it may have caused your issue. As far as I know, the up to date versions of CK and game are now compatible, but if you were modding during the bad-phase then bad things may have happened (search will find out threads from a few days back on that one).

However, Navmeshing in exterior cells can be a nightmare - especially if it effects the border-region of a cell (unless a fix has happened, you'd need to search on here for navmesh and you should find the BIG topics on it). So, if I were you, I would have a look at those topics. If you are CTDing when you try to approach the exterior door, it doesn't matter whether the interior is navmeshed properly or not, you gotta try to fix that.

IF you get that fixed up, then I'd also suggest trying the Auto-Load doors from the Wiki Tutorial, at least that will eliminate another potential cause (or use the same door as you have in previous houses, if they worked and your morally against the one in the Wiki)

Best of luck, mate - If it is an exterior navmesh problem, you're in for a bit of a time getting it fixed up.

As a tip, I have never made any changes to external cells (for load doors) that require me to navmesh an exterior cell. I always do as little damage as possible to the vanilla world space, just so stuff is as easy to implement as possible. I know that isn't always possible, but the navmesh thing always sounded like far too much work just to add a way in to a new cave.
