Questions for Blender People

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:53 pm

Actually three questions:
1) While I was faffing about making my armor, I messed with the Vertex Paint tool. I just sort of sprayed it on something and it didn't seem to do anything, so I moved on. I forgot about it entirely, until when I got my thing back into Skope I noticed that the part I painted is now invisible. DOH! How do I take off vertex painting? I tried undo vertex painting, but that seems to only work if its within your undo buffer. So, am I screwed here?

2) When I get my armor ingame, the body doesn't move. At all. Also its really dark and doesn't reflect light properly, but I think I just need to add a spec map to fix that. I think the issue is that I didn't have the skeleton imported properly when I copied the weight data over from another armor.

3) The armor doesn't show up ingame, but shows up fine in CK. This is my biggest issue. In the CK render window all is fine and dandy, but when I get ingame, the thing is totally invisible. I got the little loincloth to show up, but thats it.

Thanks in advance,
Ducey

One thing I've noticed while messing around with this stuff:
When you're told to delete the material properties, the UV goes away in NifSkope. It still renders okay within Skope and the CK, but it makes me wonder if this is why it won't render ingame.

I was going to suggest you move your other blender thread to this section, then you could have continued :) Did you get that last issue fixed?

1. In vertex paint mode, use full white #ffffff to "erase" anything you did.

2. Yeah, it sounds like it's not rigged properly. I'd suggest deleting the skeleton, deleting the weightpainting and try again. You don't need a skeleton to weight paint, in fact, save the skeleton for last once you're ready to export. As for the dark, either your normals are flipped, or remove SLSF2_vertex_colors from Shader Flag 2.

3. See #2. Might fix this as well.

4. The UV isn't stored with the material properties, it's stored with the texture properties. You did assign a texture in blender?

4. Yeah, I got that part working actually. The problem was that when I deleted the BSLightingShaderPPBullcrapProperty I panicked when I saw that my UV went away. Shortly thereafter I realized assigning it a new one restored the UV.

The last issue I decided to ignore. Actually with the things flared out the belt looks cooler than the original, so I think I'll keep it that way.

2. I'll look into on the morrow, for now its beddy bye time. Thank you for helping me with this stuff, it's pretty frustrating, but also as rewarding as any other process in modding.

For #1 I'm having trouble finding where you change the color of the brush. Furthermore, my brush seems to be stuck in Do-Jack-I'll censor this myself-mode.
EDIT: Unless you just mean the sliders. That I found, but my brush is still not doing anything. I'll continue to play with it.

Hmmm. The part that is invisible in game is also invisible if I look at the vertices when in a paint mode. No idea what that means, but there it is.

Turns out I needed to hand flip the normals. Working now apparently.

Okay, I completely re-did the weight painting and importing of the skeleton, and now the thing even appears correctly in Skope (the little upside down marionette strings are there) but the body still doesn't move and the armor doesn't show up visible in game. I got rid of the SLSF2_Vertex Colors flag and tried flipping the normals both ways, but my armor is also still invisible. Is it possible that I could upload what I've got so far to someplace and have someone take a look? I've followed the tut to the letter, and it still isn't coming out right after multiple tries. I'm getting nowhere with this. Help?

Didn't see your last post...sure, I'll take a look at it.
Easiest way might be to register at http://tesalliance.org and you can PM the files to me.

I will do that as soon as I get home. Thanks so much. Do you want the Blender ready version, or the NifSkope friendly (as in version is 12 and 83, texture sets properly added, etc.)?

Would be best if I could see everything - blend file, nif file, textures.

Okay, I attached a Blender file with no skeleton, a NifSkope readied for game version with skeleton, and the textures I use are just any bone texture, I haven't made one specifically for the mesh yet. Just pick any dds really, as I haven't made a specific one.
