Explosives in future ES games....

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:00 pm

Would the idea of hand-cannons and bombs(grenades) be too much for the ES series? Hand-cannons and the first grenades date back to the 12 century which is known as a medieval period a setting the Elder Scroll series uses as a basis. I think they could make it work quite well and explosives could have its own skill set or maybe combine it with the archery skill to make it into a marksman skill set.(maybe crossbows could return as well)

Thoughts?

they already exist the dwemer had satchel charges which you had to use at some point in morrowind's tribunal expansion also some books that mention naval battles mention cannons being used so the technology is there just conviniently unavailable when a hero arises.

Seen it lore.

Don't think we will see it in game.

If they expanded upon runes, perhaps that could replace them.

Somehow I forgot about naval ships :wallbash: so there is gunpowder or at least something like it in the world of nirn if only it could be used more conveniently.

I just think it would be great if we had some other form of ranged attacks that's not destruction spells or a bow & arrow.

One of the quests in Skyrim involves the use of magical fireballs that act like explosive artillary shells. I was impressed. It does a good job showing why the Imperials aren't bothered about things like gunpowder. Now if only they regularly used such magic technology...

If I recall correctly, there were mods for Morrowind that allowed throwing potions as napalm grenades. An idea like that might work.

Throwing knives is what I want.

There is a perk that causes the undead to explode when near death (IIRC).

I would like for an explosive weapon that's non-magical in nature something a marksman would use if he cared very little for destruction magic.

There was a strip in PvP about "dwarves with guns" that I wanted to post here, but I'm not dumb enough to comb a decade of strips to find it. Sorry guys. :|
