Shack Parts

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:35 pm

Hello, I hope anyone here can help me: I have alot of issues with snapping of objects (mid pieces, roofs) They just won't snap, they always have gaps inbetween. Now I'm trying the Shack kit, and it's so horrible. My snap to grid is on 64 and the rotation angle 45. Would be amazing if anyone could help me! :)

Turn your grid value down. Some set pieces require 16, though a value of 32 works for just about anything.

You need to have both snaps on. Then with your piece selected, press Shift+Q, a target will appear on your mouse pointer. Now left click on the piece (usually has to be same kit, ie Shack or FarmInt) you want to start snapping to.

Takes a few tries sometimes to get it right, but you should sort it.

Also most kits don't grid snap to other kits, but angle snap should always work. Little tip :)

Also, your pieces may be offset from the global grid. To work around this you can change the snap grid from the global grid to a "snap-to-reference". To do this just make sure the render window is active and press Shift+Q. This will change your mouse cursor to a crosshair. Hover over one of your shack pieces in the render window and click when the crosshair turns white. Now the grid is aligned to that piece and other pieces should snap to it correctly.

If you want to clear the snap reference and return to using the global grid just press shift+Q and click the red crosshair anywhere in the grey void.

Most of that comes from http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Layout_Part_2.

Regarding the grid setting, If I remember correctly from when I built a shack, I used a grid setting of 128 to initially place the pieces of the shack kit. That worked well since I think the pieces are 128 units wide.

Edit - BlgBadDaddy was faster than I.
