Please help with a FOV problem.

May I ask for assistance here? It's not exactly a hardware or software conflict so hopefully this is ok. I just got Skyrim and I changed my FOV to 90 as per a guide I was reading, everything seemed fine but I realised with a bow and arrow that my arm appears to be kind of borked at this FOV
I**I'd post an image but apparently I'm not allowed, just use your imagination and imagine that the arm is sort of cut off and you can see through it due to the angle.***

The settings I have are as follow:
../My Games/Skyrim/Skyrim.ini
[Display]
fDefault1stPersonFOV=90
fDefaultWorldFOV=90
fDefaultFOV=90
In-Game I typed "fov 90" and then I saved the game. Apparently this locks the FOV at 90, so I never have to type it again when I reload a save, it appears to work to that extent at least.
Any assistance is appreciated.

The "recommended" setting varies in regards to user preferences. Have you tired any setting under 90?

I've tried settings from 60-90 and I landed on 80 as a comfortable setting myself.

Your FOV should be determined by the size of your monitor and your distance from it. I recall 60 being the standard for consoles since they are usually on a big tv about 2 m (6 ft) away from you. So if you're sitting at a desk with a 24 inch monitor and you're about 30 cm (11 inches) away from it, your FOV should be between 70-80, in increments of 5.

There's a lenghty video on the subject here if you care to educate yourself on the matter, it gets a bit technical but it should explain this well enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZUao2jTGA

dont be brainwashed, in the good old days games had a FOV of around 85 and everyone was content with it. The reason games(console ports) progressively use less and less is because its faster, and users dont complain. Which kinda makes sense since gamers demand better and better graphics and the consoles stay the same age, and to make a better looking game than the next competitor you have to sacrifice something, which is viewavable distance. as for video, guy talking about our eyes having a focused view of 60 degrees, missed biology class, eyes focused area is around 5mm, everything else is blurred. Sad but true. To get a picture of the environment we constantly move the eyes, and our head too. Its hardwired. Try not to move the eyes thats impossible. Then ofc there is the question of what exactly is being measured, in the days of near square like 4:3 displays it didnt matter, but nowadays with widescreen monitors, giving one fov number doesnt even make sense. 60fov on a 10k x 1k quad monitor? yeah right.
