New Civil War Quest

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:44 pm

I thought wouldn’t it be more interesting that either the Generals, or their top Lieutenants escape at the end of the Civil War, and head into the field to marshal their forces for a counter attack.

You would have to choose sides once again in the new quest chain it would go something like (this is just a suggestion), the courier arrives with a letter from which ever side lost requesting a secret meeting with you. At this point you have two choices, 1. Attend the secret meeting, 2. Tell the faction you originally sided with about the meeting.

From that point forward, depending on your choice, will be how the quest goes, if you attend the meeting the loosing side will, explain that the only reason the other side won was because of you, and with your help they can take back Skyrim. You will then start attacking forts around the country until you eventually take back the opposing side’s city. If you side with the winning side you will defend all the forts or cities from attack until you eventually attack their largest camp/fort finishing the loosing side once and for all.

There is also the potential to add a third party to the war the Thalmore, and as the Dragonborn you can broker a truce because of the emanate attack from the Altmer Dominion, somewhere off the coast of Solitude the Thalmore have established a military camp with their warships anchored off shore, and a joint operation between the Imperials and Stormcloaks is required to push them out of Skyrim.

Would this be something that would interest you?

The concept sounds great, I think this would be a nice addition to the game.

OP, I agree with you, all the quests should be like that, more engaging.

And the Civil War stayed so, so short. The game brings a lot of quests, but I have preference for larger quests, and not larger quantity of this...

I like the concept but I don't get why the losing side wants to have a meeting with you. Sure you. (or We) pretty much contributed in the victory of said side. However I doubt they will risk or even bother requesting a meeting with you because there is a good chance that well just warn the winning side about the meeting. That is unless they give you a good reason why you should betray the side you fought for in the earlier part of the civil war.

As I said that was just a suggestion but, I think the idea of switching sides should be available, how they get to that point isn’t really important.

There should have been a truce in the beginning anyway. The Thalmor are the real threat.

Simply requesting meeting with the Dragonborn does not necessarily entail giving away any vital intelligence. So even if you immediately inform the winners of the requested meeting, it does not create any real strategic disadvantage for the losers. If the losing side felt that a single individual was truly that significant in tipping the scales of the conflict, it would be smart to explore any option that might exist, however small, to lure that individual to their side.

Spoiler
The Jagged Crown quest already presents an opportunity to betray who you're currently with and join the other faction
Besides if you picked a side, you've picked a side. If you don't like who you're stuck with, don't continue to help them. I get the whole freedom of choice aspect to want to help out again, but I like the emphasis that, once you've done something you have to live with the concequences, more.

It's not about being stuck with a side, if you felt you had made a mistake, this would give you the opportunity to correct that mistake, you wouldnt have to change sides if you like the direction you went, the main thing is I would like to see the civil war quest be a much longer chain, next to the dragons its the most prevalent issue in Skyrim and ends way too soon, I would like to see it expanded, to give it a more epic feel.
