Documentation for .inis?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:32 pm

Hi,

there are plenty of entries in both skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini and searching the web, you find entries, so have in their their .inis, most don't.
I found out, some crash my game, some seem to have no effect, most are selfexplaining, but some not.
Some say setting xyz to abz leads to best shadows, others say the opposite value are the best.
It seems for some entries, nobody really knows, what they do. It's a trail and error thing to get the best setting for the own pc.
Is there really no guide, no documentation that explains every single entry that is allowed or recognized by Skyrim?
More than just explaining resolution and vsync?
Can anybody help?

The problem is, most of the settings have no real effect in the game, and there are far too many to list them all and what they do. The guides that are already out there cover the vast majority of the settings that actually do something.

If you have an Nvidia card, you should start http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide?sf2686171=1/#1.

Thanks.
If you have an Nvidia card, you should start ....
No, I have AMD, nevertheless, this is also very useful for AMD, I don't know, why the informations given there shall only be useful for NVidia?
But I did already read that before and they don't mention a lot of entries there. It more of "only resolution and vsync" for me. Nothing really interesting.
Thanks anyway.

What exactly are you expecting to do with the ini? Its not some magical file that can do anything.

I just want to know, if I need some of the entries or at least, what values to set up.
I don't know and have found with google, what for example bAllowCreateGrass does.
Or, staying at grass, bAllowLoadGrass.
For me, they are not selfexplaining.
And I know, that in my .inis are not all possible entries.
I just don't want to miss an entries. I want to be sure, to have anything done, to tweak the best out of my PC, getting the best visuals at a performance, where for example trees are still swaying in the wind - all the time.
For now, my settings are at an critical region, where fps drops sometime below a certain amount, so trees stops swaying. That is annoying.
So perhaps, I find something, that I don't care of, that can be deactivated or at least lowered, to improve performance.
