Playing as a Vampire

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:13 am

Hello there
For some reason I have not really read any information conserning what it is like to play as a vampire, so i am asking here now.
I cant really be bothered to go trawling through past threads to find the answer, so i'll just ask here.
I have recently started a new character, an Imperial theif. I'm basing him off Jack Sparrow from POTC and Will Scarlet, one of Robin Hood's merry men.
I thought i'd try some new things with this playthrough, so im concentrating on duel weilding and blocking with one weapon.
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to make him a vamp? It would be a new experience, plus it would give me an excuse for drinking all the mead and wine I have been collecting (hence the Jack Sparrow)
To anyone who has played as an *unmodded* vampire, What is it like? Is it hard?
Thanks.

Well i am playing as a villian, for example i didnt like anyone and dont deal or barter with anyone. So my half dark elf/orc may look wicked and turned out a vampire other day and it was interesting, just have to becareful going out during the day. Now if you want to barter with peoples and meet new friends, being a vampire is not a good idea.

I'm thinking about becoming a Vampire on my main account, level 47 Bowman. Since sneaking can be a problem during the day, and my Character is based around sneaking, I think it'll be a great idea for me to become one, since It'll be useful while I sneak around during the night, and svck blood from people.

Not sure about it yet, but I'm going to see how it'll scale out.

If yu have no intention of staying in the shadows away from society it will be no cakewalk for. It is possible as my main is a stage 1 vamp at all times, while i also have a vamp who is a stage 4 at all times. Fighting in the daylight is a huge disadvantage since none of your meters recharge. So chose carefully. Also it is better to specialize in being a Vamp instead of it being secondary

Accually I have a couple questions about playing as a Vampire too. Is the only way of bcoming a Vampire is to be attacked by one and if you do become one does that make other Vamps non hostile towards you?

Yes in Morthal, but it is much easier as all you need is a filled black soul gem, you can also re-contract the disease infinite times

Even at stage 4 other vamps will attack you as if you were a regular person, and The vampire's drain ability has the highest chance of giving you the disease, while the melee has a very small chance of it

I would suggest only doing it if you base the character off vampirism, more so than Jack Sparrow. Unless you are going to make your Jack Sparrow cast Illusion spells, because there is no point in becoming a vamp if you are not going to utilize the 25% bonus to illusion spells. I would also consider getting pretty good at restoration and alteration. Restoration is handy if you are going to fight/travel in the day, esp once you get respite. Alteration is always handy even if you just use the base shield spell until it gets high enough to take the Resist Magic perks. You might also consider being a Breton, and getting Lord stone as that will more than compensate for the weakness to fire. Atronach might be good too.

Another thing that might be handy, is that if you get lycanthropy through the Companions it will cure your vampirism until you decide to cure lycanthropy then get infected a again with vampirism.

People whine too much about vampirism. I do think there should be stronger positive effects, but it's really not hard to find just one person to feed on every in-game day. Heck, you can even order followers to sleep so you can feed. You have 4 full in game days without feeding before people become hostile, and even then it's not game over - just feed on a sleeping bandit or something, and you're back at stage one.

You dont need to keep your vampire inside during the day. I love walking around the day time as my vampire even in the wilderness. Of course, obviously you get some serious stat reductions from this but I dont have a problem because most likely when an enemy is nearby I go into sneak mode and surprise them. Especially at high levels, when you are so overpowered the daylight shouldnt even bother you. Also I try to keep my assassin at stage 4 as much as possible but at this time I try to stay out at night because all the townsfolk will try to kill you. Only go stage 4 if you plan to do some serious questing. Also a little tip, I got max illusion so whenever people run around town trying to kill me at stage 4 I just calm all of them down and go about my "business". If you get some serious magicka or if your a vampiric mage then you pretty much can stay at stage 4 the whole game without too much of a problem.

I hope this helps you out. Keep us vampires alive and we will rule all of Skyrim one day...mark my words muahahahHA ( I vanish into the shadows...) >:[

I've been thinking about creating a character for a Vamp playthrough, and I love the idea of feeding on a Follower. They can be my Familiar or Fiend, like Renfield!

I am a great fan of vampirism in Skyrim, my advice is, don't go vampire... since its release Ive played about 10 vamp chars, and since Ive stopped becoming one, my character is much more effective. Thing with vampires is Roleplay, anyway if you really going vampire, get Magicka+Stamina+Health fortify regeneration items as soon as possible(to toggle between them when needed), also the Necromage perk(under restoration 70) is a great addition. Horse to travel during daylight and resist fire gear are also great to overcome the weakness. Ive read that Atronach stone is advisable as well. Of course you don't want to waste the Illusion bonuses so perk your Illusion tree on middle and right side.

wrong!
okay, would you rather be a powerful vampire that can drain life forces and summon a familiar to help you in combat but everyone will want to kill you
or
still be quite powerful as a normal person while maintaining the peice with all people in skyrim?

Well since Vampires do have immune to disease, but still there some diseases will effect you, i got hit by stepping on a trap lol. The disease i took was "bone break fever -25 stamina" i find that kinda odd and shouldnt effect vampires. Hope Bethesda fix this issue!

Playing as an unmodded Vampire on the 360, and most of my characters become Vampires, so I like to think I'm pretty fluent in playing one. ;)

Playing as a Vampire in Skyrim really won't fit a Jack Sparrow play style, OP. Vampires really require you to focus on a completely different play style. There is the time of day (or night), and what Stage (1, 2, 3, or 4) of Vampirism you are at. Stages 1, 2, & 3 aren't really too bad, but the loss of stats and stat regen during the daylight hours mean you really have to be careful who you pick a fight with. At Stage 4, you either are going to be living mostly free of the cities unless you can find a lonely farmer to feed on.

Then there is the Vampire who plays at Stage 4 constantly, which adds a whole new level of difficulty to the game. There are different interactions from the NPC's in the game depending on whether or not you are a Vampire in the first place, and then depending on which Stage you are at.

I RP very heavily with every character I run (90% Dunmer Assassin or Mage/10% Khajiit Assassin or Sword-N-Board), and I love the way Vampirism is instituted in the Elder Scrolls games, but they do require you to almost completely rethink the way you play your characters to get the most out of being a Vampire.

But back to one of your original questions; No, I don't really believe that Vampirism would help your Jack Sparrow character build. In fact, I think Vampirism would be detrimental to that build more than anything.

Hope all of this helps. ;)
