Playing out of character

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:26 am

In prior TES games after I would get bored I would always try out the ‘Out of Character’ character. Something like an Altmer Warrior or a Nord wizard or a Breton rogue. Just a character with some handicaps to make the game more interesting. Actually my Orc Bard was one of my favorites.

Anyway I am trying to figure out a way to do this in Skyrim but the differences in races seem kind of moot. Attributes are gone so having a weak warrior is out. Honestly after 600+ hours of gameplay I think I have used a racial active ability maybe once, and that was just to see what it did. The passive skills I just never notice and the skill point boost are negated after about 4 or 5 levels.

It seems the races are just to ‘undefined’ this time around. But I still want to try something. Anyone have any suggestions of a race/class setup that would seem ‘Out of Character’?

Thanks.

Bosmer in heavy armor has always looked odd to me, remember the one in Tribunial who cons you out of money lol

I was once thinking of a Bosmer Beserker. Or an Orc Priest.

By using a race which lacks skill bonuses appropriate for your build you're still gimping yourself a little, but yeah without attributes the difference is far from pronounced.

I still had fun with my Redguard thief and Bosmer destruction mage though. :)

An Orc assassin that uses Illusion magic, perhaps?

Hmm,how about a Khajiit Mage? That`s definately out of character and a challenge

True, but there is one of those already in the college.

I haven't played much with magic in this game so I may go that route, but again other than missing the Magicka racial bonus not much else changes whether you are an Imperial or an Argonian.

Actually there are not any Redguards in the College so maybe I can revisit one of my old DA:O characters. http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/images/649591-1313420284.jpg

Wow, did those man-hands help with casting magic? :P

I think Skyrim has taken a step away from stereotypical Breton mages and Orc warriors, so there's not a lot that's out of place any longer.
My gimped character is a vision impaired Nord chef.
