I assumed Wizards of the Coast had a copyright on that. If so, must only apply to P'n'P.

Interesting... as the piece of news suggests, however, it might be just a copyright measure to prevent anyone from capitalizing on such a popular concept.

They probably just want the rights for the word...

You would think if they were just interested in protecting the word for the character we play in Skyrim, they would have applied for that patent last year. It's possible, but man that would leave me thinking their legal department has no common sense.

Jep, they just want to claim that word before others do. Can't have history books in TES:VI talk about the 'hero born of dragons' because some [censored] put a trademark on it.

I sort of wonder if one of the DLCs might involve another dragonborn you could end up fighting. They'd have the same shouts as you can get which could make them a very powerful enemy. Like a high level draugr except with a far bigger range of shouts.

That's Dragon Born not Dragonborn.
With the right amount of money and the right lawyers, they would have a chance in a court.

I doubt DLC, as others have stated I'm sure it's just so people don't use Dragonborn.

I am not going to take a stand on whether it is or isn't, but I think I'll have some fun with a little what if scenario :P

If it is one of the DLCs here is what I think would be related:
  • Continuation of the main quest
  • Storyline around learning what it "truly" means to be Dragonborn and maybe learning if it is hereditary or not(that is something I want to know at least)
  • More shouts
  • How Akavir is involved in the Dragonborn business(some Akavir came to Tamriel seeking a Dragonborn in the 1st era IIRC)
