Good Vampirebattlemage build

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:49 am

Hello everyone as you can most likely tell I'm new here but I've been playing the elder scroll series for quite awhile now and am the proud owner of Skyrim. I have about 8 characters but I mainly just have my main three, assassin, warrior and mage classes and wanted to try something a bit new. After the trailer for dawnguard was released I decided I wanted to try my hand at being a vampire, however after my run in with a dragon at stage 4 I decided i needed to cure myself immediately. I've been playing for awhile now and whether it was skyrim or the original 4 oblivion's I've never tried to be a battlemage. I started to make one but didn't feel the build was right, and was just wondering what kind of character I should make. I considered being a dark elf just for the fact of being 50% resistant to fire which would help me later when I I decide to be a vampire. Any helpful tips would be much appreciated.

Edit:There are two Battlemage builds

Traditional Battlemage (no armor)
-One handed
----sword or axe
-Destruction
----Frost or Lightning (no dual casting needed)
-Alteration
----Mage Armor Perk
----Magic Resistance+Absorbtion
----Dragonhide Spell
-Restoration
----Necromage
----Respite (for power attacks)
----Regeneration
----Ward Absorb (optional)
----Avoid Death
-Conjuration
----Some atronachs
----Mystic bound sword (if you dot want a regular one)
-Enchanting

Sorcerer Battlemage
-Pretty much the same except you wont use the "Mage Armor," instead you will use light/heavy armor of your choice and put more points into stamina

EDIT3: If you play on a higher difficulty you will die a lot in the beginning of the game. Around level 10 you will become MUCH more powerful very quickly.

Use a Breton for Magic resistance, and use the Lord Stone

Thanks one question though. Why not use heavy armor?

Taking into account all of the info for the actual battlemage build what race should I be? If I wanted to be a vampire would it be in my best interest to be a dark elf or will the vampires be improved in dawnguard?

Different people have varying opinions on builds and what is expected of them. To me, a Battlemage is a Heavy Armored Warrior/ Mage mix. That can be any combination of 1H, 2H or Sword and Board and a selected school or two of magic, like Destruction and or Conjuration.

I edited my initial post, it has the race and stone that offer optimal use

That was just a post directed to the OP. It had no bearing on the information you presented. I was just throwing in my 2 pennies. Looking over your post, that is one of many ways to go about it.

I really appreciate you taking the time and naming the specific perks I need and I thank all of you for the suggestions, as all of you are well aware of there's are lots of choices in skyrim, and I'd just like to make the best one for my new class.
