How about a Strict Play mode?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:25 am

In Skyrim, certain NPCs are invincible because they are required for certain quests. What if two modes were created: Normal Play (What we have now), and Strict Play (Anyone can die, basically a revert back to Morrowind where if you kill someone important, you were out of luck).

What do you guys think? I doubt it will happen but I just like to throw out ideas.

i think there should not be immortals in the first place. all beth needs to do is give them decent AI (do NOT charge a hungry ancient dragon with a rusty iron dagger. idiot NPCs) and all would be fine

No, because if you do that, some player(s) will kill a questgiver or someone important by accident, and then they'll be on the forums crying about how Bethesda doesn't know how to make a game, and on and on.

I thought I'd seen it all as far as forums is concerned, and people who post in them. But nothing compares to what's going on in the D3 forums for the past few weeks. Mostly haters, name callers, etc. That's what your forums would look like, I believe, if you did that.

if they kill someone they should reload or live with it, just because they are idiots does not mean we (i, at least) should pay for it

If this was to be implemened, then a lost quest due to death of a quest giver could be worked around by having someone else give you the quest... like a subordinate or replacement.

the crazy thing is they already have the perfect solution implemented in game. The 'protected' NPC's cannot be killed by other NPC's but can be killed by the player.

This prevents unexpected ai events killing an important character, but still gives the PC the freedom to kill people that tick them off. I'd rather be able to kill anyone and face the consequences than to have immortals that just keep getting back up and chasing you.

It's especialy apparent in the civil war; joined the Empire and stumbled upon a Stormcloak camp near solitude.. Figured it was up to me to deal with these scouts and killed the lot of them... untill realising there was in immortal commander present who would not die. >_<

I like the idea of essential NPCs and highly support it - they just went a bit overboard.

Delphine and Ebern set as essential. Heck yes! But remove their essential status at the end of the main Questline. Stormcloak general as essential? ... No.

I 100% agree with the person above - essential NPCs should be invincible to NPCs, but not the player.

Oh god, I found this annoying. I'm done with the civil war quests and decided to clear out the rest of the camps. The first camp I came to I find an essential. That's my camp-clearing ruined :wallbash:
