Multiple Accounts rather than Saves

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 4:38 pm

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone thinks it would be better if Skyrim and Oblivion had multiple saves accounts (like mass effect and dragon age) rather than just seperate saves.

I always find it annoying having to check which save file is which, anyone else have opinions on this or any bad experiences of overwriting old saves?

Do you mean that they would group your saves by character instead of just having them all number in one place? If so, yes.

There was actually already a thread on this, either yesterday or the day before.

I usually have a few chars on a profile and that's it, just because I don't want to spam up on saves.

I just don't see why they wouldn't implement being able to change the save file name, like all games have since 1980. Especially in a game where people make multiple characters and games. Baffling.

These threads pop up quite regularly. Once Bethesda took away the means to rename saves, multiple characters became tricky to do.

There is a way to name your characters so that they group. Put a comma after the name, then the description for the character. Then the saves are named by the description of the character.

It is explained in this thread, obviously this has to be done at character creation:

On the PC, I use Windows Explorer to move saves around to keep characters straight. On characters that are already in progress, you can make the save screen shot work for you by having a character always looking at a certain thing, or their feet or whatever, so at least you can choose based on that.

Do you play on PC?

If so I present to you http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10345 !

It allows you to sort out your saves to different profiles. It also works for Oblivion, Morowind, FO3, and FONV.

They did it in Morrowind.

Character profiles like Mass Effect would be amazing, and that tip from CCNA is really good. If your worried about overwriting saves and on the 360 you can format a flash drive to use as a storage device for your saves, that's what I do. My main character is on the hard drive connected to the console and my other saves are on the flash drive. I don't know if PS3 can do that though.

Yea, i was thinking about doing that, thanks for the advice. Could you do that with cloud storage do you know? Or would it sync to your hard drive saves every time you connect to live and play Skyrim?

I'm pretty sure you can use cloud saves for that, I think I did that very briefly, but I just prefer using a flash drive. But if the cloud saving is your only option then definitely do that. If cloud save is active when starting Skyrim a popup will ask which device you want to use, so you would choose the device with the saves you want to play

On the PC you can name saves with the console, which is a really handy feature as you can keep all your characters seperated. Without that feature I can only imagine how easy it is to save over your older characters with new ones so I pity those that have done this by accident. Removing the ability to name saves was definitely a bad move.

Ok, i'll try that next time I go online. Thank you for the help :-D Think i will invest in a dedicated flash drive in the future.

I just use different xbox accounts for different characters. Ive done so in fallout 3, oblivion, Fallout New Vegas, two worlds and most other games where saves can get muddled up.

Thought about that but i generally talk to people through Xbox Live parties whilst playing, so wouldn't really work for me :-S
