Horse Mounted Combat in Skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:48 pm

I for one am very much excited about getting to be able to ride my horse in Skyrim and be able to engage a enemy but what the developers need to do is make it so the horse you purchase is passive and does not attack what you are fighting with or attackes you. They really make it so that after you purchase a horse and get it at the stable it is a non combat mount in the game does not attack or can be attacked.

When you have mounted your horse you should be the one that is attacking the target and takes the damage or gets attacked by a creature and not your horse.

The horse should also stay with you when you dismount when outside of a city and when you enter a city or town you should be able to leave the horse there and it should always stay there and not run away.

I really am looking forward to the dawnguard expansion but really hope that players will get the chance to re-visit morrowind and cyrodiil and maybe even the black marsh area as future full expansions to the game.

Other than that keep up the good work and one more question, players were able to get a castle in Oblivion and its would be nice to also be able to do so in Skyrim.

A.D.D. much? Got a bit off topic towards the end there...

On topic, I haven’t gotten to try it yet but I wouldn’t be in favor of “immune” horses as it seems you’re alluding to. It makes since for an enemy to attack your horse, ever watched a battle with people on horses?

I don’t think your horse will attack anyone if you are riding (controlling) it... that would be frustrating...

My horses always stay outside the city gate... not sure why yours are running off?

To get a castle, and 1000+ other amazing things get the PC version...

I get really annoyed at my horse walking away every time I dismount. I just get off to loot some bodies or raid a bandit camp then the horse is half a mile away when I get back. So I have to chase it in order to continue my journey at a decent speed

Player owned horses should just be non-aggressive, I too am tired of dismounting and having my horse run off to start fighting a dragon on it's own, although this is nothing new, I haven't liked this mechanic since the game was released. I have to disagree with the immunity thing though, I think enemies attacking horses is perfectly fine and fair game.

Another thing, dismounting during combat should be a seperate, quicker dismounting animation compared to the normal one. I, for one, would not take my sweet time to get off a horse if I was getting attacked by Bandits if it was real life. You literally take like 5 seconds to get off of your horse (which is perfectly fine for when you're passive and not in combat), but they need to make a new animation for a quick dismount during combat situations. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I'd also like the point out my desire to use staffs on horseback. Spells, fair enough, might hit my poneigh!

Also, I suppose it's more realistic that your horse would get hit. If you're on it, they're gonna smack it and drag you off it.

We need a horse summoning whistle like in Zelda. o.o;

Oh, I'm rather new to horses in this game overall though, I only ever bought a horse once before the mounted combat came through, and that was the first week of release. What happens if you own multiple horses? Are those horses then stabled where you bought them? Can you just switch horses as you see fit?

Say I own the Riften horse and the Whiterun horse and I want to ditch the Whiterun horse for the Riften horse, does the Whiterun horse get automatically stabled at the Whiterun stables? Would I have to buy him over again if I wanted to switch back to the Whiterun horse or would I be able to switch as I please, essentially owning them both permanently until they die?

I don't know for certain, but I'm guessing it's like oblivion. The last horse you rode would teleport with you and the other would be at the stable you bought it at. o.O

My horse always runs away during a fight. The biggest problem is that horse combat is pretty much useless on high level/difficulty since your horse dies in a single hit which in turn makes you fall to the ground and die from your enemies...

I really don't like horses in this game. They seem to be in the way of my skull-bashing all the time. But horse mounted combat would be really nice :)

By default, they'll run away from the general combat radius. However, that's only when they remain unharmed. The minute they take even 1 point of damage from an enemy, they will rush towards them and attempt to solo them.
