With summoned atronachs.

I enjoy it, therefore it is the best for me.

'The best way' is a matter of opinion of course, but on my previous character I really enjoyed watching my dremoras mow everything down. Sometimes I didn't even know what they were fighting until I caught up to them and found a pile of decapitated bandits!

Bows are pretty good. Not as killy as 30x sneak attack but it's highly versatile.

I think you do what works for you. If the game has been well-designed, you can go in a lot of different directions: warrior, battlemage, mage, thief. There's a decent varietry of weapons, spells, shouts, racial powers, and other things as well. The idea is to make the game very replayable.

I have 8 followers on my mage so they do all the fighting. I don't even have weapons or spells loaded.

Doesn't that get boring?

It is said the best way to fight is winning without needing to draw your blade.
In which case it's better to get your various follower/conjured/resurrected minions to do the fighting for you.

But I say the best way to fight is winning without your opponent ever getting the chance to draw their blade.
Slitting oblivious throats never gets old.

With a gun. A gun with bullets!!!1
There's no best way to play, but the funnest character ive played is a Khajiit that avoids combat AT ALL COSTS, using illusion and paralyze. He carrys no weapons, and only uses his claws to kill.

battle axe

This. Or dual War Axes.

Basically, as long as your hitting things with an axe, your winning.

playing a sneakless archer in the moment. some nice distance shots right between the eyes can be very amusing, but just standing there shooting arrows also gets boring sometimes.

to me sword'n'board feels the best. it's just the way i would fight in real, if i would be forced to. shields are just great to protect yourself.

Two handed battle axe, keep hitting their carcass after you killed them too.

There is no best way, fight the way you feel most comfortable and that is really the best advice there is.

The question should be what is the most fun way to fight? It's different for everyone, of course. But variety is good.

I just had lots of fun clearing a draugr dungeon just using fire runes.
