Default Dovahkiin

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:42 am

I'm curious as to how many of you play as the "vanilla" or "default" Dovahkiin. For those of you that do no know, this would be a a Nord Warrior, who uses Studded Armor, Iron Gauntlets, Iron Boots, an Iron Helmet, a Banded Iron Shield, and a Steel Sword. No magic or stealth. Maybe a Steel Dagger and a Long Bow with Iron Arrows. I sometimes like to, because it feels right. Anyone else?

Well, of course it feels right. The majority of the dialogue feels like its written with the default in mind.

I thought it was iron armor he used O.o
I never did, at least not that I remember. I did try to make a character look exactly like him but deleted him rather quickly.

He wears both in all the videos advertising Skyrim. It pretty much varies. Anyway, I'll change into this gear when I'm about to go into a dragon battle. Feels even.. righter.

I just kitted out Erik the Slayer in the default Dovakhin gear yesterday. When I pay my subs to flickr I'll be able to post some pics.

He's the absolute double.

I play the canon character for each game on DID with the hardest difficulty, or try to.

The canon Nerevarine gave it a decent shot, but died to a random critical hit.
The canon Champion of Cyrodiil never actually died, but I died of boredom because the hardest difficulty mode for Oblivion requires you do nothing but sneak and rely on poisons and summons and perma-invisibility to do all the work.
The canon Lone Wanderer died. MULTIPLE TIMES. Each time stupider than the last. (random explosions, the Firelance event happens RIGHT NEXT to a raider, who picks it up and one shots the LW, the LW falls because the ledges of the Rivet City boat are kinda poorly rendered, so he literally just walks off since the edge seems longer than it actually is, the Operation Anchorage sequence where they blow open the door delays, then suddenly everyone remembers to launch their fat man mini nukes when the LW is standing in front of the door, a random raider doesn't see the danger of firing a rocket launcher downwards at point-blank range, a random raider with a flamethrower randomly decides he should light that car to the right of him on fire and kill both of them...) :flame:

....MOVING ON

The canon Courier actually survived. First try. This kinda astounded me because it's simply never happened for me, but the canon Courier did have good stats. The storyline implied a durable and lucky Courier, which are both very defensive stats.
The canon Dovahkiin died multiple times, each time to an even more corny kill cam being activated out of nowhere.

At this point I'm kinda at the philosophy of "why try again when it's obvious the build I think the canon character would have is doomed to fail" in the cases of the Lone Wanderer and the Dovahkiin.

I've never made a Nord, and since their racial ability isn't very exciting, was surprised that many people would. If I were to play a melee character I'd rather be an Orc.

Yeah yeah we all know your opinion on the subject. Every time you can, it's just a constant stream of crying and complaints. Is it ok to want to improve the game? Absolutely. But all you do is just whine that Skyrim isn't like Oblivion ( :yuck:) or Morrowind (). Sometimes people don't know when to stop complaining. Skyrim may not be the best TES but it certainly exceeds Oblivion by miles, Morrowind just barely beats it.

All in all I'm quite tired of the straight up entitled [censored]ing that goes on in this forum. Beth promised you a RPG, and that's what you got.
)inb4skyrimisn'tanrpg If you didn't like the RPG Beth gave you, quite frankly, tough [censored]. Beth isn't going to overhaul large parts of the game just because of some people who act like they deserve more then what they got, and they shouldn't, either.

Your opinions are just way to valuable and important to be unheard.

Maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t08am2Ph7FQ will help covey my point, since being content with what one has is simply impossible. There's a special line just for you.

Sometimes people don't complain enough, and are perfectly fine being walked on. That's perfectly fine, but not everyone is like that. There is no benefit in blindly defending games and kissing up to developers by saying that there is nothing wrong. This behavior is actually the cause of games getting worse instead of better.

The Nords have a strong shaman tradition and the College of Winterhold was considered something to be proud of before the Great Collapse (so says a loading screen). That's what has led many people to become suspicious of mages. I'm sure the Dominion being mages doesn't help.

Actually in term to not has a pull to play certain character Oblivion did better Morrowind you were a dunmer hero reincarnated thus had a pull of you playing a dunmer. In Skyrim you were this legendary nordic hero, Kinda makes you feel to play as a nord.
In Oblivion.... Nothing, you're not an Imperial hero reincarnated neither was you some legendary imperial hero.

I'm not saying Oblivion is better however there are some aspects that Oblivion did better just like there are some aspects that Skyrim and/Morrowind did better.

I'm not trying to do that though. I do agree with the standpoint that Skyrim could, and should be improved, but it's been, what, eight months since release? Beth would have done something to acomodate for the wonderful suggestions made on this forum. Some little things have been done, like Mounted Combat, but otherwise the most complained about features of Skyrim are far to large to fix in patches, or even DLC. At this point, I'm certain Beth has either seen the complaints and are keeping them in mind for TES VI, or they are ignoring them, so I see no point in further discussing the faults of Skyrim.

Also, sorry for my harsh words, and thank you for responding like a gentleman.

I'm not so trusting of Bethesda. They have a historically low developer to player interaction record on the forums, and tend to operate in a vacuum. They often have lofty goals and ideas, but the execution and organization is largely lacking despite the amount of talent they pull to a project. This is more than likely a deeper problem, but still, it is prevalent enough that I feel jaded by it.
