So.. I have 3 characters right now..

My first one is a jack of "most" trades Dark Elf. He is extremely powerful as far as keeping himself from taking damage, his main focus is one handed weapons and heavy armor while he has the appropriate perks for these skills in smithing (100) and enchanting (100). Level 53 (Fixed because I just accidentally erased the 57 save... wow...)

The second one is a Khajiit that has a main focus on one handed, Sneaking (All perks), and light armor as well with the appropriate perks in Smithing (100) and enchanting (100). Lvl. 67

The third is one I started today with a friend that's an Orc that focuses on 2H weapons and heavy armor (He is level 4 and already has a superior steel set of armor and a superior ancient nord longsword). Lvl 4

Now my question is, I want to do a mage character... so what's the best class for a main focus mage of destruction, illusion, and conjuration? Oh yes, sorry.. forgot to add that he'd be a Vampire Lord.

The best magic races are probably Altmer (High Elf) and Breton. Altmer get a Magicka bonus and overall more racial bonuses to magic schools, but Bretons get a constant resistance to magic, which is arguably more valuable. Do you plan on using armor? If not, you should pick up Alteration for the Flesh spells (as well as the Atronach alteration perk, and the Paralyze spell). As for your sign, I suggest The Lord (again assuming you're going unarmored). Another option would be to go with armor and pick up The Steed sign. Honestly I would drop Destruction if I were you: it's pretty underpowered at high levels, and Conjuration should be sufficient for your offensive needs -- especially when combined with Calm and Frenzy from Illusion. Oh, and pretty much regardless of your decisions in the aforementioned skills, you'll probably find yourself using Restoration as well. So basically, the way I see it, you have a few decisions to make:

1.) Race: Altmer (offensive-minded) or Breton (defensive-minded)
2.) Defense: Heavy Armor (with Steed sign) or Alteration (with Lord sign)
3.) Primary offense: Conjuration or Destruction

Depending on the choices you make here, you might want to consider adding Sneak. If you plan on focusing on summoning via Conjuration, supplemented by Illusion and Alteration, Sneak isn't really useful. But if you use a lot of bound weapons and/or runes, and you're using Steed + Heavy Armor, Sneak can be a big help.

Definitely Altmer or you could use a Breton if you wanna be a defensive mage. Or if you wanna be a spellsword I would use a Dunmer. For altmer focus on Illusion, Destruction, Restoration. Whether or not you use Conjuration, Enchanting, or Alteration I'll leave to you.

My personal preference for a mage is conjuration. Max that out, grab the summon dremora lord spell and the twin summons perk and you will pretty much walk over anything the game can throw at you. :bunny:
