I remember the first time TES blew my mind....

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:05 am

When I entered the city of Daggerfall for the first time (which also happened to be the first town I visited in the game), and I was amazed at how large the city was and how alive the game world seemed to be with all the NPCs and so on.

In contrast, Morrowind was a disappointment in this regard as I didn't find the game to be much alive. All NPCs just stood at the same spot 24/7.
I was also amazed by how large the city of Daggerfall was until those ghosts started eating my skin off.

Morrowind, the second i stepped out of the census office and the game tip said : your on your own now, i felt so alone and small, i felt like i was part of the world, ill never forget that.

 I remember that. It was like, ".....what?"

My first time entering Telvanni territory...the sight of the Mushroom towers made me stop in awe as I took my first steps into sadrith mora from Wolverine hall...so much awe that it made me forget about wanting to be apart of House Hlaalu and make a new Telvanni character which to this day I still do and squee in joy when I find a good Telvanni mod.

My first ash storm and first visit to Ald-Ruhn. I came out of the Mages Guild right into the storm in full swing. I'd heard you could catch diseases from Blight Storms (which is what I thought it was) so hid in the doorway of the guild. Gradually, I was able to make out the Fighters Guild across the street so I tried to get there as it looked more sheltered. In between the buildings, I lost sight of both of them and had to inch my way, leaving a trail of dropped items behind me so I could tell my progress.

The howling wind, the dust flying, it was truly terrifying.

Dude, are you my twin brother? I had the same experience as you. I was blown away by the dust storm. Amazing thing I ever saw. I walked to Ald-Ruhn from the north gate of Caldera. It was like a spiritual experience for me. I guess this is due because it was the first time I saw next-gen particle effects.

Walking onto the deck of the ship as my character arrived in Seyda Neen and seeing that water and the silt strider. Now, I've never been a guy that paid any attention to eye-candy in games, but Morrowind's water just blew me away. And the rest of the game was just as magnificent.

pretty much every thing from the time exited the sewers in oblivion to the time right before i made my secound character. which was 150 some thing hours befor i made a new character. but the things that did it the most was exiting the sewers, butterfly door almost every thing in the SI, all the quests, the ending of the main quest. well the ending blew my mind and pissed me off at the same time. cause i had never played a game where you actually didn't beat the finnal boss.

Stepping off the boat in Seyda Neen. Rather trite I know, but it's the truth. That was the first time, but the beauty of Morrowind was that the game continued to blow my mind for the next few weeks, months, years. I had no idea what to expect when i picked the game up and I remember being consistantly surprised by the scale and the scope of the game as the realisation of the sheer size and possibilities open to me slowly dawned on me.

Exiting Helgen for the first time, and stepping into the big bad world. It was amazing - the detail, the beauty, the fact that I could see a mountain in the distance and was able to run up and climb it.

And TES has continued to blow my mid, every single day. The Imperial City continues to make me stop dead in my tracks and admire it from afar!

It wasn't Morrowind even though that was the first TES game I played. It was Oblivion because of all the good facets of the game going and starting through the lower sewers of the Imperial prison. And then finally getting out in a great world.

Entering the big wide world of Cyrodiil and knowing i could go and do whatever I wanted. What made it even more special was that the time I spent with oblivion was even better than i had imagined in many ways.

In MW when I first went into a 6th House Base and it totally creeped me out. Never been anywhere as atmospheric in any other videogame.

Same thing here, I took a fast travel method to Aldruhn really freaked me out the first time an ash storm started haddn't seen anything like that in a video game before, especially the first time it happened when I was out of town and couldn't tell what I was doing so I would switch to third person mode it was really neat seeing the sprite react to the wind and dust flying everywhere and moving slower. Made me look around for anything place I could get into (mine or dungeon or something) to get out of the storm or just trying to run out of it into a better area. That was honestly a very cool video game playing moment for me.

Most of you seem to be of quite young age, or started playing video games in the early 2ks, right?

The first time TES blew my mind was the first hour of Arena, after I realized how big this world was.

It was 1995 and there was no such thing like Internet at home. I never read a preview, review or any walkthrough, instead I bought the game because the box said that there's more than just the usual 20 hours of gameplay in it. It blew my mind repeatedly, not counting the many times when my gameplay was interrupted by a nasty bug.

Since then, every TES game blew my mind but of course the _real_ fun started when gamesas released the CS for Morrowind. It was quite uncommon, espcecially regarding the fight some people had to get EIDOS/CORE to release something similar for the old Tomb Raider series.
