Bow in one hand, Spell in the other.

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:14 am

Bethesda needs to add this as an option. When you're not firing your bow, your other hand should have the option to "hold" a spell.

For example: Crossbow/Bow at the ready in one hand, and paralyze spell in the other.

Character casts Paralyze, and when firing with the Crossbow/Bow switches to a two handed animation. It makes sense, and should be a option aside from unequiping the bow every time.

You hold a bow in your left hand and use the right trigger/mouse whatever to attack with it. So you would have the spell visually in your right hand since the bow is in your left. So would you reverse the controls?

Eh, Oblivion was MUCH more friendly with anything/magic hybrid classes, since you never needed to unequip your weapon to equip magic.

Eh, depends how they implement it really. They could work it as fire spell -> insert arrow -> fire bow OR insert arrow -> fire off spell @ X% effectiveness ( concentrating on keeping the bow loaded and firing a spell) -> fire bow.

The game is already OP.

Enchantments that make magic completely free.

Smithing can make you a God of battle.

But no I don't think it would be that OP. It would just be common sense.

Well I don't know about Xbox controls, but for PC I think it would just be.

Bow in Left hand. Left MB to draw the bow, and while the bow is drawn. Right MB to zoom in.

Spell in right hand. Right MB to cast spell.

We could have hotkeys like in oblivion if they bothered to code it in. ie if you press 1 (where you have fireball hotkied) it would automatically cast it. After casting hands would equipt whatever you had in them.

Currently you can't even bind number keys to anything. They are just wasted space.

sorry, OP but this is impossible. to fire the bow, you acivate the right hand to load and fire. left hand is bow-bash/zoom and bullet-time effect when drawn. the controls for bothj hands are already taken when holding a bow

No more overpowered than a weapon + spell already is. Bows already have their drawbacks (pun intended). The punch being a relatively useful feature, it would be unusable when wielding a spell.

I have an idea, I don't care if it's done by a mod, an official patch, or even in the next TES, but it HAS to be done cause its just that badass. If you fire an arrow, you pull the string with the left hand right? If you have let's say, fireball equipped, you shoot a fire arrow. If you have a Conjuration spell, your arrow does what that spell does, and if you have a healing spell equipped, your health increases by the amount of damage you do. You get the idea.

Next you'll want to be able to use a spell with a shield-hand, because you can still curl your fingers to spell-casting shapes. Accept what you have, sheesh.

Unless that spell was a Summon Arrow spell, I really don't see how that would work.

Consequence of what? Try being more specific for my lesser mind.

Not having an opportunity cost to wielding weapons instead of magic or vice-versa overly encourages hybridism in gameplay, from a game designer standpoint. My mod adds in several spells that trigger without having to change what's equipped in your hand for the purpose of encouraging hybridism, but I'm careful to limit what I allow to fire from the power slot because the opportunity cost exists for a reason.
