Books Similar to Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:17 pm

Hi,

Im looking for books which are similar in plot and similar in general to Skyrim. Basically what novel/saga is the closest to the game?

Oh and I have read lord of the rings and I am watching Game of Thrones, so a song of ice and fire is out :)

Thanks

To be honest the show changed quite a bit from the books and lessened the overall quality of the story, I'd recommend giving them a try. Aside from that there are novels based in the same world as TES, can't remember their titles off the top of my head.

Huh the game of thrones show IS EXCELLENT, and captures the overall feel of a song of ice and fire quite nicely

LOTRO and GoT aren't really like Skyrim at all. If you're going for medieval themes though, try Winter's Hearts. The Arthurian Saga series if pretty good as well. The Once and Future King isn't bad.

Huh? The first season was fairly faithful but the second season was bastardized beyond repair. We'll have to agree to disagree, not trying to hijack this guys topic.

The Infernal City and Lord of Souls are the elder scrolls novels. Try them they are really really cool.

They changed the story too much. I HATE that. But it is a really good show. Try the books first, if you havn't already. Also, Dragonlance is a really good fantasy series, along with the King Raven triolgy, thought King Raven is more realistic and history based. And the Lord of the Rings trilogy is a must read. The Dwarves triolgy is really good. The Templar series is really good as well. King Raven and Templar are histroical, but fit in very well and have a great stroy.

I will add my reccomendation for you to read the GRR Martin books and not just watch Game of Thrones on HBO (though it is great - Peter Dinklage is brilliant as Tyrion).

For something a it lighter, I would reccomend the Erevis Cale books by Paul S Kemp.
Shadow's Witness
The Erevis Cale Trilogy
The Twillight War - 3 books (has nothing to do with teenage vampires)

These are D&D/Forgotten Realms books, but I think the writing is far and above the usual Forgotten Realms schlock.
Interesting characters, making deals with/working against various Devil Lords (think Daedric Princes), magic, being chosen of the gods, etc.

Worth your time.
