Square miles in Skyrim.

It took me about 40 minutes (real time, not game time) to ride, on a horse, from Solitude to Riften. I'm curious as to how fast the horse travels being as how there's no speedometer. I'm also curious just how far, in miles, it is in-game from Solitude to Riften. Or from one end of the map to the other. Any idea?

Wikipedia says the average speed of a galloping horse is 25-30mph, so if you were "galloping" the whole way (I know your horse runs out of stamina, so let's say average is 23mph...for fun.), then you'd be going .38333 miles / minute. So at 40 minutes, that's 15 1/3 miles.

Pretty good example of how much closer together places were back in the Middle Ages. Horseback voyages took a LOT longer than cars do. Maybe not as long as the game may make it seem, but you know.

And yes I know I put too much thought into this.

The Skyrim map is so tiny to Cyrodiil :( It takes half a day from Chorol to Anvil or something like that

It's 16 square miles, that's all I know. The mountains make it seem bigger, though.

Once you explore everything and really look at the map, it seems rather small.

Maybe, but the detail is so unbelievable. Skyrim's the first game I've seen where I often couldn't tell I was playing a video game. as someone who started out with Pong, Pac-man, and the Atari 2600, it's an amazing realization, let me tell you!

World scaling. It's 16 square miles in game. But based on the scaling with the time I'd say it's about 380 square miles without world scaling.
