Since 1.6, no keyboard

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:00 am

Among the strange things v1.6 has wrought on our game, add this one: a COMPLETELY non-functional keyboard. And a mouse that is virtually unusable (terrible lag). I can launch the game (ignoring the jumping mouse) because that's mouse controlled, but once there, no controls.

I've tried the usual "fixes", including:

Verify game cache
Delete Data folder and download new game, forcing Steam to "reacquire" those files and give me a fresh vanilla version (wasn't using any mods anyway)
Start a new game
Replace keyboard
Verified graphics drivers are latest
Device manager shows no problems with drivers (no surprise there; every other app on the computer is fine)

No change with any of the above. No, I don't have a backup v 1.5 that I can rollback to (if I ever get it working again, that will be the first thing I do)

Game was working perfectly until 1.6, so I know my system is OK with it (XP Pro SP3, AMD Athlon 2X64 dual core 6000+ @ 3.01 GHz, 3 GB RAM, ATI 4850 graphics-512 MB DDR3 RAM DirectX 9-latest updates installed)

Any ideas out there?

Have you tried deleting Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini fround in

C:\Users\*YourName*\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

And launching the game to create fresh ones?

This simple fix worked! Thanks B1gBadDaddy! I'm back in business, and so far, there are no other issues with 1.6. My graphics look better, too.

Thanks again.

It's not a fix; it's something everybody must do after any update. :)

As far as I could tell, the patch put all the game setting back to default. It certainly reset all the controls. Some earlier patches have done this, but not all.

I had the same mouse issues so I just did this and now I can't start my load. The game says there's missing content and then crashes when you select continue. It was working perfectly fine 6 hours ago.

Edit: Fixed. It would have helped had you bothered to say doing this unticked all your mods.
