can you believe the Capital of Skyrim

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:29 am

Was once Winterhold? Its crazy seeing as how deserted it is now. And if the college was in Winterhold back when it use to be capital then wouldn't magic have a bigger place?

Interesting, also is Whiterun the capital now?

I thought Solitude was the capital? Yeah Winterhold is a shell of its former self.

Technically there are 2 capitals, since Skyrim is split by Civil War. The city where Ulric rules is the considered the capital by the rebels, and Solitude (Whichever one is in the north on the Sea Arch) I believe, is the capital for the Empire and her supporters.

I believe Solitude is the capital atm as that's where the High King was and I think it is mentioned somewhere in the game.
Is it said what actually happened to Winterhold? Where the hell did it go if it fell down the cliff? It's not there now lol.

Part of Winterhold was swallowed up by the Sea and then a great fire engulfe it. Nothing like it used to be

The College of Winterhold quests explain this if you ask some of the mages on what happened.

Yeah, but since 80% of it was eaten by the ocean, it can't really be a very good capital to the whole province of Skyrim. It doesn't even have any walls. I just find it odd that there aren't any old building peices in the sea that supposedly swallowed the city.

I wish you could use the Wooden Mask and just see how Skyrim used to be, since I guess it takes you back in time.

Hey Bethesda a DLC idea for you! :P

The guys that drive the carriages tell you Solitude is the capital if you chose to go there. It would be nice to fix up Winterhold and restore it to it's former self.

Would be interesting. If and only if Winterhold hadn't been swallowed then the Nords wouldn't hate magic.

Windhelm was also said to be a capitol at one time. I'm thinking maybe a lot of times they'd have new king come to power and just make their hometown the new capitol rather than move, since Skyrim doesn't have one city to make an obvious capitol like Cyrodiil does.

Hi all!

Whether Windhelm, Solitude or Winterhold or even Whiterun, they are all small and don't really deserve to be called cities. Solitude has what, 30 buildings? That's a modest town. Riverwood is a pueblo.

You have no idea how much of Winterhold was swallowed up by the sea and/or devestated by the fire

First off, some of the biggest citys in olden times only had 100 buildings. Skyrim cant hold huge citys, not yet, not with current generation technology.

Don't quote me but I do recall hearing something about Winterhold being the largest city in its day, then the sea swallowed up more than half of it and the fire burnt down pretty much the rest...a DLC needs to come out to fix Winterhold and other stuff.

Hello there SonOfSithis! How have you been?

Well, not much, I gather. If we contrast Solitude with Winterhold in its present state, Ancient and Current capitals, not much, I'm affraid. Was there a sismic event that could account for Solitude's embarassing smalness? Of course, I'm aware of the constraints Xbox and PS3 put on a game like SKyrim. I just want them to be fully aware size matters, and that they should focus on this aspect for the next instalment, a time when, I'm sure, such smallness won't be as easily forgiven.

Fenrat, hello. Good to see you.

Do you believe we should use Medieval Earth or even a more remote earthly epoch to contrast Skyrim with?

The capital of Skryim seems to be based on whichever jarl is currently high king.

Windhelm was the original capital of Skyrim. Currently Solitude is. Wouldn't surprise me if Winterhold had been at some point too.
