my spell caster/warrior was under powered could barely touch him with my fire and frost spells and getting up close and personal with him with my axe was no good, it's a good thing I never sold all my arrows and bow like I intended to that was the only way I finally killed him, he seemed to be able to barely touch me if I stayed far away from him and hid a lot and slowly whittled his health down

I don't remember this fight being that tough, and I went all Melee on him with an Absorb Health Enchanted Sword and a mid level character. However, I did spam a few health potions during the fight. If I had not had those, it would have been a different story.

Would have been a tough fight for me had the Dragon Priest not gotten hung up on some terrain. He just stayed in one place while I pelted him with arrows.

I think that part is designed for you to use the Staff of Magnus on him to steal all his magicka, I did that on my pure mage and I used... maybe.... 1/3 of the total charge on the staff, IIRC.

I think you mean Morokei? There have been some great posts about epic battles with him. Everyone seems to have a different strategy too. One thing I know...you don't forget the battle.

When the Eye of Magnus is open Ancano is invulnerable. You need to close the Eye of Magnus by using Staff of Magnus. After the Eye is closed, Ancano is vulnerable. You can use Eye of Magnus on Ancano at that point to drain his Magicka. He is a pure magic user and he is useless without Magicka. Keep swiching back to the Eye of Magnus to keep it closed.

I had good luck one time by getting in close to him using Invisibility potions and then using the Drainheart sword that takes his stamina. That is one of the weapons you can get on the way in to him and are great for taking him down. The next time, I stayed behind cover while Lydia pinned him down and I kept shooting him with the Drainspell Bow. His health gradually drops and he's done. Good luck!
