Oh gods , why everyone likes thieves !? Thread 2

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 5:16 pm

Hello everybody !
I just want to open a discussion here about everyone liking thieves.

Look , I see that almost 60% of the players there like Sneaky players , which follows Dark Brotherhood , Thieves Guild and all the dirty places.

I mean , where all the honorable warriors and the fearsome mages !?
Come on !

I like the thrill of being stealthy but I like being mage better even when I'm a stealthy character I usually have illusion mixed in. Warrior though, not so much.

I'm personally a warrior person at first, but 'til hundreds hours of playing I know I love sneaky player more than anything.
Usually with bows, alchemy, and illusion.

One of the reason might be because sneaking is more interesting in skyrim as compared to pure mage/warrior. Given the choice, i would rather have a pure mage like i did in oblivion, but the spells in skyrim are less appealing compared to oblivion.

Gutslit likes to sneak into places despite having given up the life of a Bandit. He was a bandit when he was a teenaged Khajiit, and his only friends got killed along with the rest of the guys he ran with. He sort of tries to hold off on stealing, but he can't resist sometimes. Especially when it means money.

Fiersome mages got gimped beyond belief so that compared to previous games mages are now mere apprentices who cant even cast 1/100th of the spells of previous games.
Thats why I dont play a mage.
That, and that the hold-release system is aggrevatingly annoying.

When it comes to warriors, I always must think of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan, and yeah.
Thats just lame.

Yeah, the variety of spell have been reduced greatly. There's midas magic if you're on pc though and several others that powers up destruction.

But still I don't feel right playing as altmer without being a mage.

I personally don't like watching stuff fall over. That said, "thieves" without the sneak are super fun to play. Well, without sneak fighting anyway. Besides, with quick shot and ranger (along with the awesome bow bash) archery is a very usable attack form all on it's own. I personally find it the most entertaining way to play, since it takes skill to win most fights.

I DO wish they'd add/improve the magic system too. Oblivion (the only other TES I've made it far in) had a great (if totally broken/overpowered) system. Seems in their attempt to fix it, they had to limit it a LOT.

That said, even without spell crafting I miss touch spells, and various effects from older games too.

So in short... sneaking (IMO) is the slowest most boring way to play.

Or we could do ADnD nutcase insanity, and just let some of the overpowered crap in to an extent. Lightning out the hand duel wielding = total overpowered. Maybe make the spells less common until later levels if we're going to go insane with balance in this game?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that touch spells would be overpowered?

Also, I haven't played D&D since 3.5 (and that was ridiculous enough).
