Using Items from Other Mods

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 1:58 am

Here's the situation:
I'm trying to include the modified Skooma from the Skooma Incorporated mod into a skooma den I am working on. Whenever I place the items into the world in the CK, they appear fine. I also added them to an NPC, both in the form of an item and as a leveled list. When I go in-game to test it out, the unique Skooma does not appear, but the adjustments to the regular Skooma do. That is to say, both mods are working, but any attempts to use the items from the first mod in the second mod fail.

Is this possible at all?
If so, how?

Thanks in advance,
your friendly neighborhood skooma dealer

The game has no problem with one plugin file being the master of another, but the Creation Kit does. In order to fix this, you need to toggle the ESM bit in the file header of the file that you want to be the master whenever you open it with the Creation Kit. It's usually best to leave the bit unset when you're actually playing Skyrim, though, as ESM files are automatically loaded before all ESP files.

You should be able to use one of the available 3rd party editing utilities to accomplish this. I'm not particularly familiar with what's currently available, though. Hopefully someone else will be able to recommend one to you.

Thanks, I think that I can figure that part out. I'll update on wether or not it works in a few minutes.

EDIT: After a few minutes of thought, I'm not sure this would work. Reason being, I can't (At this time) change the master file to an ESM for any user other than myself. Would it still work if the ESM is changed back to an ESP?

EDIT 2: I've used TESVSnip to master the plugin file to the original file (Containing the modified items I'm trying to use). Hopefully that will work? Did not work.

UPDATE: I've converted the original file to an ESM, mastered the ESP to the ESM, edited the file in the CK, loaded up the ESM Master and the ESP Plugin. Still does not work. Items don't appear in game and don't persist through saves. I've noticed that after Mastering the file, upon first opening it in the CK it says the ESP is mastered to the ESM. If I save the file, however, and try to open it again, the ESP cites no masters other than Skyrim.esm. Any help would be appreciated.

The best method I found is this:
-start wyre bash -> right-click the file -> select ESMify -> rename the extension from .esp to .esm
-after these it works for me in CK and in game too.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I'm still experiencing problems. Nothing I do can make the items appear in-game. Should I be changing the Master back to a Plugin when I test it? Using Wrye Bash, should I be manually mastering the files?
