(1.6 patch) Severe FPS drops around the worldspace

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:10 am

With the 1.6 patch (and "beta" befoe it), my game sometimes takes huge FPS drops when in outdoor areas.. This was reported by others during the beta as well, and I wanted to see how widespread the issue is, and if anyone has any reccomendations on what do to.

My PC:

i7 930 @ 4.02 Ghz
12 GB's DDR3 RAm
GTX 680 4GB

Skyrim installed to Solid-State hard drive.

Obviously, my system can handle skyrim at maximum settings, stacked with all sorts of mods & .ini tweaks on top of that. I'm almost locked at 60 FPS through the entire game, but every once in a while my FPS will just plummet to 10-25 while I'm outdoors.

EDIT: The only .ini tweaks I use are tree & land shadows, and high resolution reflections. I haven't messed with uGrids or anything. The only mod I have that really has a performance hit is RCRN.

Some users reported having these issues, and fixing them by updating to the very latest gpu driver. I'm running the 301 beta I think, and haven't had performance issues.

Edit: Also remove your mods and tweaks. You never know if there's a problem there until you actually try it.

Well, I removed my .ini tweaks, which helped the random FPS drop in heavily forested areas a little, but nothing drastic. These issues were happening before i began these tweaks anyways, and to others as well.. Idk.

It's worst directly soulth of Helgen, and in the far southern portion of the map, west of Riften. There are probably other areas, but that's what I've covered so far. I have about 40% of the map unexplored.
