so I need to do the skooma quest chain to become a Riften thane, but it's bugged out on me. I had already cleared out the cave before doing the quest, so not enough people spawned in it. I read that if you keep going back and killing the few people, eventually the quest will complete.

How long does it take for caves to respawn? And whats teh fastest way to go through that amount of time?

If it says "cleared" on the map, 30 days. If it doesn't then 10 days. Waiting is definitely the "fastest" way, but waiting 31 days takes almost 15 minutes (on PS3).

That said, you COULD keep track of the date and just keep playing. Time flows pretty quickly believe it or not. Or just do a quest... wait 5 days... do another etc. It'll "seem" like it passes a lot faster that way.

That quest is forever bugged on your save file as the person your suppose to kill will never respawn again if you already cleared that cave out.

If http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Cragslane_Cavern has been cleared before receiving the quest, you will need to go to more trouble to complete it.

When this occurs, you need to clear the cavern three times in order for the quest to complete. You need to kill a total of seven bandits to "disrupt the operation", but only the three bandits respawn after you have cleared it. Travel far away and wait thirty days for the cavern to reset. Return and kill the bandits three times to get a total of seven.
