Patch Screwed up Game?

Hello,

I haven't played Skyrim in a while because my brother lost it. He recently found it again, and I downloaded the latest patches and played it. However, here's some problems I observed in just half an hour of gameplay:

- Thieve's Guild talk to me like I just met them, even though I've completed their questline and have done dozens of other jobs for them.
- Shalidor's Writings quest reset.
  • - I beat Vokun originally, but for some reason when I enter his room the doors open automatically, his tomb opens, and... nothing happens. His body is still where I killed him, and the iron-bar doors at the back of the room are closed, sealing off the objective behind them. I pick up Vokun's dead body in a feeble attempt to make the game register, but... http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/oo66/Dimentio343/WP_000584.jpg
- Controls reset. Simple fix, but still noteworthy.
- "Assist the people of Haafingar" quest not showing up. It says "(5/5)" but when I select it, it does not show up on the map and I have no idea where to go.

Can someone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

The only way I know of to fix the 'assist the people of Haafingar' quest is to go do another favor for someone in that hold (either Solitude or Dragon Bridge). This is assuming you haven't done every possible misc quest in that hold. One example, I know of is to go chop wood for the man at the mill outside Solitude or the man at the mill in Dragon Bridge. You might also try picking crops for the lady at Katla's Farm outside Solitude. Once you've successfully done another favor quest, the counter should update to "(6/5)" and then disappear out of your journal. This seems to a bug that still hasn't been addressed and has existed for as long as I can remember. All the other holds seem to automatically clear the "Assist the people of 'x' hold" out of your journal after the Jarl names you Thane. By the way, I think it's normal for a map marker to not show up with this type of quest.

The other problems you've mentioned, I don't think there is a fix yet either. There's a somewhat complicated workaround for the Vokun issue in High Gate Ruins assuming you need to access the room behind his remains on the elder scrolls wiki: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:High_Gate_Ruins (see the bugs section at the bottom).
