Should I start the main quest before Dawnguard?

From what we know about the dawnguard plot line, it appears to be entirely independent of the skyrim main quest line. As such, it shouldn't really matter, story-wise.

I would recommend it since there are new shouts.

What they said, you can start without ever touching the MQ, but I recommend it anyway. If you're playing a character who isn't the Dragonborn, that's fine too. :)

I have been enjoying the lack of dragons on this play-through. Kinda missing the dragon shouts though.

I don't have time to finish before then, so I don't think I have much of a choice.
