Light armor allows you to move quicker, but it absorbs less damage.

Less perk points required to complete the tree. Heavy has 2 sides that need completing if you want the best the tree has to offer, but that also includes some useless perks.

You can also get perks to make light armor stronger, so that makes heavy armor useless, right? No.

It doesn't matter which one you choose, there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Most of the disadvantages can be countered with the right perks. However, neither armor is useless. If you are playing a ranger/assassin, why would you wear big clunky steel armor? You would wear light armor.

One main advantage for light armor: Sneaking is easier.

Light armor: A bonus to stamina regeneration. 10% chance to acoid damage.

Heavy Armor: Increase unarmed damage, reduced fall damage and reduced staggering. 10% chance to reflect damage.

That is the differences of the perks of the armor types.

Heavy armor looks better imo. Both of their skill trees fail though and I think a few perks are bugged.

Right up until you hit level 50 in the Light Armor tree and/or 70 in the heavy armor set. Perks become available that reduces the Armor's weight to zero when worn.

At any rate, light armor has one less perk than heavy armor, and with smithing, you can push both past the armor rating cap. In the end, it basically comes down to your personal preference as to what kind of armor you like the look of.

u could use a mix typed of armor while ur leveling up ur character then get both perk trees if ur willing to spend that many points in armor perks. Then You can switch between both types of armor when ur bored of ur current one.. Although i think it might be a waste of perks but thats the only way i see for u to have more options in the game with armor types. o_0

There is nothing that says you can't use and put perks in both types of armor.

Light Armor is superior for anyone who plans to follow smithing and get to high levels. Light Armor hits the armor cap and wind walker provides additional protection, while it also gets higher damage from its stamina recovery. Heavy Armor will protect less and help with damage less.

I thought both types of armor can hit the level cap? If you're specced right, you can get Steel armor to the level cap, so how can heavy armor protect less than light armor?

Because Light Armor negates 10% of all melee or bow attacks with the Deft Movement perk, and still has superior movement due to much higher stamina regeneration.

^ AstralFire is correct in stating that, once the player has developed sufficiently, light armor can be superior.

However, this argument ignores the huge amount of time spent developing one's character. At lower levels, most melee-dependent players will find heavy armor to be FAR superior. And I would argue that this is actually the most important time for warrior characters by far, because once your level is sufficiently high you will have zero difficulty in killing any enemies, regardless of your armor choice.

As a result, I still think heavy armor is better for melee warrior types.

I'd like to back this up, by the way. The point at which light armor becomes superior to heavy armor is around the point at which the game breaks down. But as a lot of people here seem to go on with their character to really high levels, I felt it was a point that should be brought up.
