New doesn't always have to be the best.

I am talking about DLC. Specifically Skyrim future DLC. I sit here thinking about the exciting adventures I will have in Dawnguard. I also think about all the DLC I have experienced in TES in general. It is always so seamless, and fits the world.

But I always miss the old days. In Oblivion, I would spend all my time in the Shivering Isles, and would never return to Cyrodiil. It was sad, because the old stuff was fun, but it is always the same.

Maybe, (crazy idea) the next DLC for Skyrim could be a sort of "extender" to Vanilla Skyrim. So you could revisit all your favorite things on your high level characters. This would include extensions to all the guilds, as well as an extension to the main quest as well as general advances in the entire world. Because, lets not forget that the world is a changing place.

Here, I'll get you started.

Main Quest:
A new insurrection has sprung up involving Nord zealots who want to resurrect Ulfric. This zealous group is attempting to cast a powerful dragon spell, a spell that will ultimately break the rift between Sovenguarde and Tamriel, allowing the remaining dragons to enter and rescue their leader's body. As Dragonborn, you must track down the insurrection and put a stop to their insane plans.

The Companions:
After the Dragonborn became the Harbinger, the Companions have never seen such wealth. But as the Companions gain in strength, so do their foes. Now, the Silver Hand is preforming a werewolf genocide, and the Companions must prove their innocence in the eyes of Skyrim. The Companions and the Silver Hand participate in a brutal tug-of-war over the providences of Skyrim, which could ultimately decide if werewolves can coexist with people or not.

The College of Winterhold:
The Psijic Order is back, with an even more cryptic warning. They warn the Arch-Mage of a powerful Dwemer Lich who has awoken with the intent to summon forth a Dwemer army. Everyone dismisses this as preposterous, but as Arch-Mage, you have seen weirder. You must do battle with this mechanical monstrosity across the realm of Skyrim, utilizing your wit and ancient magic unearthed.

The Dark Brotherhood:
As the new Listener, you will not let the Dark Brotherhood crumble again. To do so, you plot with the Night Mother to spread your influence across Skyrim, and remind the world why they should fear the Dark Brotherhood. You tear down your foes friends around them, spreading paranoia and fear. The Night Mother blesses his champion with a legendary weapon from the Void, and instructs the Listener to use it to rid Skyrim of (current world leader). To do so will remind the world that the Dark Brotherhood is always watching.

Thieves Guild:
The Thieves Guild have enjoyed unparalleled wealth. But that wealth has attracted unwanted attention. The Vigils of Stendarr have caught wind of the Nightengale Order, and has overthrown Riften's Jarl to get to them. Now on the run, the Thieves do what they do best to reclaim their city. The Vigil houses a sacred artifact of Stendarr, his legendary shield. After tracking down information on the artifact, the Thieves have discerned it's location. Will the shield be enough to convince the Vigil to leave Riften?

Various world event changes.

The current world leader is sick of the Forsworn. He asks the Dragonborn for counsel, whether to strike a treaty with the Forsworn or to wipe them out. Either way, the Reach will never be the same.

Winterhold is also rebuilding, with the fame of the college increasing, so has the cities population risen. The Dragonborn is asked to help rebuild the city, as well as offering to become it's Jarl....

Helgen has been rebuilt, and the residents there have formed a group of dragon hunters, intent to never allow the towns destruction again. Esbern sets up a base of operations there, and the city becomes a home for all dragon hunters. There, the Dragonborn can help train it's members, as well as test new weaponry crafted specifically for dragon hunting.

The Graybeards feel that the Dragonborn has experienced enough to join their ranks. After a grueling Thu'um trail, the Dragonborn becomes a full fledged Graybeard.

The Daedric Princes have taken notice of the Dragonborns actions at their altars. Now, each prince lays claim to the Dragonborns legendary soul. The Dragonborn is given the choice, as each Prince tempts him with powerful artifacts. The choice is made, and the Dragonborn is made champion of his chosen Prince.

So yeah, would be cool maybe?

This is what I've been preaching in most of these "future dlc" threads. I'd like to see them truly expand on what we've already got. Whether that's the guilds... or adding a guild and expanding the others.. or whatever. I'm not so worried about throwing new stuff at it where you have to go through some rabbit hole in a mountain to get to. Expand and build on what we've already got going here.

Some very sound ideas you have there. Although, not sure how rebels would attempt to recreate Ulfric is we sided with the Stormcloaks. And choosing who you'd like to be champion of us great. Gives me a chance to get Goldbrand.

Very good ideas. I like them a lot.
Although the Dragonborn becoming a Greybeard is not really appealing.

I really like the ideas for expansion you listed, especially the ones about Winterhold and the College itself! The city was so small that I got the feeling they just ran out of time to flesh it out and decided to throw most of it in the ocean. Others have said this a zillion times before me, but I also wish the College questline had been a lot longer than it was.

It would be great to see DLC to add to vanilla Skyrim.

This sounds like a retread of what we've already gone through with the Companions.

I want the Psijic Order to come back, but not sure about the rest of it. The Dwemer seem much more scientific minded than most people, so they don't strike me as the kind of people who'd make liches.

This doesn't sound like the Dark Brotherhood's methods. They don't go killing indiscriminently. They're professional killers who do contracts. I'd like to be able to recruit new members and go out on missions with them, especially if the missions are more complicated. You go off to kill someone while Babette leads someone into an alleyway to kill them, then you meet up for dinner at the Winking Skeever or something. It'd be fun.

I'd rather go on the missions Gallus planned before he died. Robbing mansions and museums and the like sounds appealing. I also doubt the Vigil could actually oust out the Jarl of Riften, though the idea of them interfering with Nocturnal sounds fun.

Edit: Ooh... three stars. How pretty.

I like the Helgen idea as it is very similar to my DLC idea to have your own Fort/City to build up and train people to fight dragons or whatever you want like a new thieves guild/DB/etc.

And then you could use ingots to build the fort and obviously they better the ingot the better the fort which would mostly be a visual thing unless they could make it take damage?

I like most of the ideas, and I would like to see a few options added to each of your ideas. I whole heartidly agree Vanilla Skyrim should be expanded

I'm glad this thread has mostly positive replies, and I too heavily agree. I'd rather see the world grow than have new things thrown in my face to make up for them. Great ideas, refine them and we're looking at some pretty good DLC.

I don't really agree with that. The OP is talking about ideas he has. Perhaps he is spoiling for when Bethesda hires him.. But between you and I, while I like the premise I'm not sure he's Bethesda material. Don't tell the OP I said that though. He seems nice enough.

There are numerous spoilers in this. For example:

Spoiler
The Dragonborn becoming Harbinger, Arch-Mage, and Listener.
The Companions having werewolves among their ranks.
The Psijic Order and the Silver Hand.
