I think I know why there are 200 years from Oblivion !

Hello everybody !

Why do you think Bethesda took the move of a big amount of time to be passed ?
For me , I really loved the idea.
I think they did that because:
  • It gave a refreshing to the people , generation of people changed
  • It gave the opportunity for the Great War to begin
  • For me personally , it gave more flexibility of making a better Role-Playing
    For example:
I made a Nord woman who continues the line of one of the people in the Mages Guild of Bruma.
  • People and books have many references for this 200 years part
  • Many events happened.
  • Daedra related things which were common in Oblivion now are artifacts , very rare or extinct.
  • It gave the opportunity for the Empire to fade / evolve
What do YOU think about this ?

Sounds pretty spot on to me. I also continued a line from the past... though it was a few generations later of my main character from Oblivion (and now, retroactively Morrowind).

Changing the empire and allowing the great war are probably the main reasons though. And to create some distance between the end of the last era.

I think it was so that any mistakes could be put back, I never played Morrowind or Oblivion much but the Mystical school apparently went out of fashion by the 4E. Maybe Beth want it back so they create an older game setting. Or acrobatics and such. Then to the main point is just great, books written about Oblivion and stuff is great. Also just being 200 years in the future allows new stuff. Maybe if the TES: Hammerfell comes out it will be set in 4E600, with flail maces etc.

I hope it will take place in the Summerset Isles , it's too small so maybe the whole Aldmeri Dominion ?

I think it was a good call because it let it be connected to Oblivion & previous games without being shackled by direct generations, events, etc. It builds on the mythology without getting stuck in it.
