Playing a Nord

Post » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:26 pm

I've been playing mages or battlemages in Elder Scrolls for years now. I tried to play a female nord about a month ago, but she ended up pure mage. While she was a fun character to play, she felt like an infidel to her race.

Now I have a similar character... a female nord named Angier Dojia..level 1, master difficulty on PC. One thing that really bothers me is that nords start out with 100 points of magic and a fireball spell(Be careful wif dose flames)...just feels very wrong, like I'm starting with a broken game. I'm thinking maybe I could get away with alchemy or enchanting, but this character was just born under a bad sign in my eyes.

Beyond that, I could use some tips on other aspects of playing a nord, as well.

Are you wanting to play a Nord or a Nord mage?

Skyrim made all the races so vanilla that really any race can be anything. Granted role-playing wise a Nord mage would be looked down on, but like most things the game really doesn't pick up on that. Some may note that you are a mage, but they say the same thing to you that they would if you were not a Nord.

I see Nords as Light Armored, Sword (or war axe) and Shield, Bow backup, etc. Blocking is a lot of fun in this game and can make up for the low AR Light Armor gives. Honestly most the Nords I play never cast a spell.

I'm trying to avoid spellcasting and play more of a true to their roots type of nord.
