Should I use a sword as a close range back up weapon for my archer character? I don't want to waste perks for something unnecessary

I use both on my main character. Use a bow for long range enemies and sword for close range enemies. I personally use Light armor for mobility and Alteration for extra defense mixed into the build as well.
