Official Hi-res pack worth getting?

Post » Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:35 pm

Hi guys. I just ordered an nvidia FTW GTX 680 and was wondering if the official hi-res pack is worth getting? I've read that the initial release of the pack was plagued with bugs causing CTDs up the wazoo. Is this still the case? Has stability improved?

Also, can I expect to get high fps with my 680 4GB card using the pack?

Thanks in advance.

That card will eat the Hi-res pack for breakfast.

The only crashing it would cause would be from people not having enough vram and attempting to run it. If you have enough (I have 2GB and its fine), then it doesn't crash at all.

You will want to download a fix mod however. There are 2 textures in the Hires pack that are messed up; a bloody chopping block, and wood in certain fires. Bethesda saved the normal map texture as the maintexture, so they come out neon pink.
You can find the fix mods both on the http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8236 and http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=15922.

I like it. I mean, I cant run it but ive seen it being run. I dont have an especially top-end computer so I tend to keep graphics fairly minimal. If you dont have high enough system to run it, it will let you know. With me it just crashed every time when i tried to start it. Oddly enough, this is the only real problem ive had with crashing with the game, aside from alt+tab abuse.

But yeah its nice. Still, the game is quite pretty on your own so no need to fret if ya cant get it working :)
