Somewhat off topic: You can always wabbajack them to ensure that they are lvling with you.

not Mjoll the Lioness she is the follower i want

Mjoll is unkillable so as long as you deck her out in good armor you'll be fine.

They haven't fixed the follower level yet. The only one's that level with you are the mage follower from the college or dark brotherhood initiates.
