This is a pre-alpha version of a flying machine mod. All and any feedback, including bugs, suggestions and general derision is welcome
. It requires Skyrim Script Extender, available from http://skse.silverlock.orgThe machine can be found outside Honningbrew Meadery near Whiterun. Activate to use, W=up, S=down, A=left, D=right, Shift=backwards. Activate while flying to land, activate again to get off. If you lose it, land it in deep water, let it fall off a mountain etc., one of the fast-travel carriage drivers will recover it for you at a cost of 50 gold.
You can't go higher than the front step of High Hrothgar, but this is the only protection you get against breaking quests by going where you shouldn't. If you're using Open Cities, make sure you enter Solitude
and Whiterun by the gate.
Please be aware that this is in no way a finished mod, and contains known problems, unknown problems, and has a lot of development still to go. Please don't make a save with this installed that you won't be happy to throw away - there's always the chance the mod might corrupt your save.
Known problems:
If the flying machine is upside down, it might not take off again.
If you land in water, your character may start playing a smithing animation - I have no idea why!
The mount/dismount animations are poor.
Companions will be brought along, but have no animations - they just vanish, and re-appear when you get off.
If you re-load a save made just after you got off the cart, the cart will appear at the place it was when you jumped off, even if it had rolled down a slope before you saved.
Third person view only, until I figure out how to get the first-person camera to be higher than your feet.
Matters of opinion:
While flying, you have no compass. This is due to technical issues, but I rather like it.
If you use your map or inventory while flying, the flying machine will go haywire before recovering. Again, for technical reasons, but what do you expect if you start reading a map while driving?
Enemies will ignore you while you're on the flying machine. I hope to fix this for a later version with weapons, but do people like the peaceful travel option?
The flying machine goes a bit slower than a sprinting horse. Is this fast enough?
Stuff still to do:
Quest to get the machine.
A faster, more agile machine with weapons, and a much more impressive look.
To uninstall:
Best to deselect the mod and delete any savegames made with it. Otherwise, go to an interior and save, deselect and delete the mod, load your save, re-save (this is now a clean save), re-start Skyrim, load your clean save.
