Playing with Fire - another way to enhance your home in Skyr

Just discovered this this weekend, haven't seen this talked about elsewhere... (PS3 player)

Some homes such as Riften seem a little dark and may need a little brightening up. Place an iron kettle or other container of choice in a darker corner, drop two torches inside. If they don't ignite, don't worry, step outside the house, into another area, then return , the torches will now be lit. I place a dragon bone over the top of the kettle to turn them into space heaters, you'll get the glow without the flame. The basemant now has a nice warm glow to it, as does Iola's downstairs bedroom.

In Breezehome ( White Run ), I intentionally skipped buying the Kitchen furnishings package because of the poor flickering and pixeled blocky shadow effects. Place 4 torches in the cutout for the kitchen fire pit, then stack some dragon bones over them, so that the torches are not visible. Voila, warm constant glow in the house, and what else would a dragon borne use for a magical heat supply? (I pile old armor, boots, clothes etc, on the boxes nearest the front door to make it look more like a "mud room" area....)

The basemant of Solitude seems too dark as well. I dropped a torch into the firepit, and it passes through the existant flame animation to be unseen. However, upon exiting the area and returning, a much brighter fire light is present. In the enchanting table area there is a box with a few soul crystals in it, and a small post and sconce directly behind it. Clear out the junk, drop two torches in it so that the flame ends are both central. Drop about 8 or nine greater soul crystals on top so that they fill the box and make a nice little mound covering the torches completely. Go out the door, come back later, and you've a pretty cool looking magically fired thing happening. You can use the sconce above it to support a helmet, a skull, whatever suits your fancy to create a nice little alter.

Using torches like this works outside as well, though in broad daylight, the effect can be somewhat lost, the torches won't go out like other outdoor dev. coded light sources, and possibly make things a little overbright.

I did lay two torches on the circular podiums on each side of the door to the Myzulft storehouse. Looks pretty cool to come stumbling home at night to, after roaming the wilds in the dark......

I'd encourage anyone to experiment with this, I'm sure there's scads of ways to use this little trick.

What a great idea! Do the torches go out eventually?

I had used torches for this before, but never managed to make them blend well. Thanks for the ideas.

Do the torches in the firepit get rid of the weird lines in Breezehome if you buy the kitchen area?? By that I mean if you purchase the kitchen and then drop 2-6 torches in the pit does it make a difference??
Of course I am on PC and it is modded out, but I am wondering if it would work for those that can't/don't mod.
