Dawnguard help

Hi, Im playing dawnguard, the hunt quest , I have to kill a bard and do it discreetly, trouble I tried everything to kill him discreetly , He doesnt sleep , I led him up the mountain and killed him there , but all the time no matter how hidden we are , i cant kill him discreetly..I am trying to kill him in my vampire lord form , maybe thats the problem? does anyone have any suggestions on how to kill this guy discreetly?

And the vampire lord isn't exactly very discreet.

i just go into sneak mode and slit his throat with a dagger. worked fine for me, right in the middle of the town
