Yeah, there tend to be a lot flying around next to Castle Dour in Solitude- they're actually quite easy to hit with an arrow, of course it helps if you have that slowing time down perk with archery!

I usually kill them with incinerate or firebolt. To get 3 hawk feathers and 1 hawk beak per bird.

Best place to hunt hawks is down the hill by the docks.

I find it is easiest to kill them with lightning magic.

Did it have holes in it? If it did, then it looks like we have a chupacabra on our hands. If there were A LOT of holes. Then it looks like we have a Chupacabra with an automatic crossbow.

If you have Alchemy, Hawks are worth killing, for this.
Bonemeal+Hawk Beak+Snowberries = Resist Fire+Resist Frost+Resist Shock

I read about hawks on the elder scrolls wiki. Use a master level illusion spell like harmony and wipe out half the hawk population at the docks.

Did you hear that the Commie Ghosts who wanted to paint the moon pink and put a Lenin face on it were successful, minus the Lenin Face and the fact it was done to the Sun and not the Moon ,and that it was red, not pink? These are dark days indeed.

Wait are we talking about those birds you see flying way up in the air whose shadows I always mistake for dragons? Or do they sometimes fly close to the ground?

There needs to be more of them. Besides Solitude, is there a place where a larger number of them gather? Damn feathers...*Grumble, grumble*

I like to drag their corpse and rub their bodies against people's faces.

There can be more of them. I have a mod adding more flocks of birds to the game.

I shoot them with arrows, personally. Lightning magic is an instant bolt making it a little too easy.

Personally, I have started carrying a few hawk feathers instead of cure disease potions. They weigh much less, and since Cure Disease is their first effect as ingredients, simply eating a hawk feather will cure any disease.

Edit: Here's a good vid of someone hunting hawks:
