Good wizard build?

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 9:56 am

I am toying with some ideas. I think I might want to use a sword, Gandalf style, but that seems like I would have to put too many points into health. Yes, no?

Any suggestions on a good wizard build?

EDIT: I was thinking about scrapping sworda nd trying this: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#151865

it requires level 53. I have never had a character get that high. How doable is it?

You should level up your health anyway, destruction/alteration/restoration/1 handed sound about right for you? you can be nigh unkillable as a mage. Its pretty badass to swing a sword and heal yourself at the same time, and enemies just can't keep up.

I use a lot of dual destruction to stagger my enemies and wear enchanted light armor, works pretty good

Anything is doable but I think any wizard should have max conjuration. It gives you your summons to keep stuff off you and your access to weapons. Alteration has the paralyze spell also which is a huge lifesaver if your going to melee. The summon bow works very well and I use it quite often when I'm bored.

I actually have a full conjuration mage that has a shield with max specs. I use no offensive abilities whatsoever. I summon and block.

You do not need to put anything into health or stamina if you play as a mage. I haven't played Dawnguard, but vanilla Skyrim on master can easily be done with 100 health.

I think my next wizard build wont even touch destruction or real weapons, altmer vamp and conjured weapons, stick to eleven and glass from thalmor victims

Play it as a destroy all factions type motto though

I would scrap destruction for alteration seeing that you have no other armor skill. You could also drop restoration for one handed for that sword, because restoration isn't that great beyond the whole necromage thing.

restoration + 1 hand is probably the easiest way to play the game(beats the hell out of a shield in my experience), and playing a mage without health is definitely doable, but later on it becomes apparent the game wasn't balanced to encourage that approach. Enemy mages get more hp, and archers and dragon breath attacks will lead to many reloads if you aren't extremely careful. You will feel much more powerful in the long run if you actually build a proper defense.

I recommend not taking this approach, change phrase to "can easily be done with reloading everytime something unexpected happens" and that will be more accurate.

Maybe its just me- i hate dying, and 100 health pretty much garantees that will happen, even if you are super careful, and if you arent- it will happen quite often.

Skimp stamina? Sure- but not so much on the health.
