Daedric Quests...

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 6:01 pm

This is really getting frustrating. My journal is getting completely clogged up and it's all with junk like this:

Go see a Shrine!
Go to a Museum!
Go talk to a smith about a dog!
Go ask about the Jarl's kids!
Go talk to a prisoner!
Go help a begger find his master!
etc. and etc.

Seriously? Unless I am playing a Dunmer, or someone into evil, I really don't want to have anything to do with Daedra.

First time I played I got tricked into several of these. At first i thought it was pretty cool, since in the past you actually had to find a shrine and ask for a Daedric quest. But now I know that many of these lead to doing things that I really don't want my character doing for role-play reasons, so I have to just pretend that the quests just aren't there.

This got me thinking about how many other things this game either tricks you into or gets you shoe-horned into without you really wanting to do it. It's almost like Bethesda sat down and thought, "well there is no reason to make these cool things if someone can skip it, so let's either force it on them or trick them into it." Well quite frankly it's getting old. I've already said many times here that I have never had to work so hard to role-play in a role-playing game, and it's so true.

I'm sorry Bethesda that I am not one of those that just wants to get a big sword and whack things with it, that I don't want to just do everything and be the leader of every faction just because I can. I like to put some thought into what and why my character does things and there is hardly any way to do that in this game.

Just try to make a very generic Nord warrior, an honorable guy with light armor and a sword and shield, just trying to do the right thing and be a hero when he can. And just see how long it takes before Skyrim takes you completely out of character. Very frustrating.

Anyone else finding playing any kind of organized role-play very difficult in the game?

Well, I've never played a completely lawful character until now. Even then, my law abiding is....borderline. My new Nord is probably level 12. I think that I've crossed paths with two Daedric quests that I know of.....of course, my character does not. I've not set out to complete either as I'm just going with the flow and focusing my attention on the area between Whiterun and Falkreath with a minor emphasis on killing Imperials.

I think an easy solution to this would be the ability to at least hide a quest on your menu. Maybe not delete it completely, but have a little freedom to manipulate the quest log and control what actually shows. When you're in the quest log, press to show hidden quests. Perhaps pressing while viewing hidden quests would actually delete them?

I felt the same in the beginning, but after a while you learn to ignore these disagreeable quests. I hardly notice them anymore.
Just don't feel compelled to do them only because they are there.

most of the daedric quests have optional "good " endings

That's where I am now I suppose. The quests are there, and piling up, but I'm not doing them since I know where they lead. It's just annoying that I couldn't avoid them to begin with.

But I've done them all, I played a Dunmer assassin that did the Daedric quest and the DB. I did a jerk faced khajiit bully that joined the TG so he can be a bigger jerk face bully (man I hate that faction). I played a Breton to join the MG and Bard's college. I played a hungry for blood and power Nord who didn't mind being a WW for the Companions. Etc. and etc. But as you can see there is no way you can play all those role-plays with just one character, yet by design Bethesda apparently thought everyone should by the way they hid the Word Walls and other quest items.

I'm building a Nord archer now for playing Dawnguard later (PC user) and doing the Companion quests now. It's the only warrior guild in the game and she wants to be better at fighting and better known as a fighter, so where else is she going to go. Well she hates WW and Vamps, as most normal people do, yet in order to get through the Companion quest line I'm going to have to pretend some things just didn't happen, or I can leave Aela in WW form in the Underforge forever by not accepting, but since she's the one I like training me in Archery, you can see how well that goes over...

As another said but you ignored, the daedric quests have alternative plays which aren't nearly as nasty as the main line quest endings.

I am with you in WW as far as Companions / Fighters so as soon as I got to be harbringer, I removed the WW curse from my char. I can't get into the underforge any more but so what? I'm happy with my char.
