Anyone takes Role-Playing too far ?

Post » Sat Jul 07, 2012 1:46 am

Hello Everybody !

I want to start a discussion about the heavy Role-Playing things that even may be too exaggerated.

For example , in my characters:
  • When I take a big amount of loot ( Pinewatch for example ) , I imagine I carry a large sack and the loot inside of it , if I need to use my bow , I imagine taking the sack off and after the fight I come back to the place I "Left it" to take it again ( it may get even stolen  )
  • I get myself washed often , If I get a peaceful day-off , I go to a river / waterfall , take off the clothes and then I wash myself for something like one hour in game.
  • From a few ideas I saw early , when I play Female and I really want that armor but it's on a male , I can't wear it.
  • When I get into big battles and get hurt many times , after it ends ( If I survive ) , I'm "lying" on the floor with heavy wounds , potions will help but often I can even lose consciousness and will be lying for a few game hours.

There may be many more , discuss and post them here ! :)

I have conversations with follower NPCs, I also imagine a big bag of gold. But I imagined their inventory as a bag. And sometimes I have to load my inventory into a chest because I imagine the bag being to big.

I tend to avoid those people, for they have no sense of imagination and just seem lame.

I don't. I just walk from unexplored area to another, searching for random battles.

I know one awesome RP game. Easy to install, just get up from your chair and walk out from the door and you are done! You have new game with 100% realistic graphics and physics. Also it's bug free :teehee:

I've always wanted something like this to be implemented into the game. I do not like the fact that you can carry so much crap. Here's how it should work if you want to take back loads of stuff to sell.

1. You should go into a cave, dungeon or whatever and clear it out of enemies with your sword, shield, armor, or whatever.
2. Go back outside (you'll definitely need a horse) and what would be really cool is if you could get your own carriage. Here you need to get a large bag (which should be shown visually on the player).
3. Grab all of your crap and load it into your cart or on your horse. And yes, if there's another enemy, you should have to drop your bag and unsheathe your sword.

Role playing is cool, but when its taken to the extreem, then its just seems odd IMO.

You actually IMGAGIN throwning down your invisible "loot-bag" when your fighting? And actually WALK all the way back to the place you dropped it? THATs just weird.

QUOTE: if it only had autosave :(

Agreed. That's the technology we need to develop: Autosave for real life! (yeah, don't we wish)

RPing is lots of fun, though I will say that you probably don't need to spend an hour under a waterfall getting clean. 10 minutes tops. And make sure it's not one of the waterfalls going out of a town, because who knows what's in the water...

I also have to use Healing after spending too long in Skyrim's water; figure if it'll fix injuries, it'll fix hypothermia. That and I eat and sleep whenever I remember to. My own version of hardcoe mode.

I find that alot of NPCs in that game svck...

On to OP: I don't take any items or weapons from fallen foes (unless its unique or enchanted). I will take their keys and gold.
Unless my character is a skilled alchemist I wont drink found potions. What If some idiot mislabeled that health potion!!
I use the wait function once a day (varying on time) to simulate the days travel time, eating and reading etc. This helps not with just immersion but also I find it silly that I can walk/run to Whiterun from High Hrothgar in under a game day...
Also sleep... I'm a stickler for getting my 8 hours of rest!

I Rp too myself but I'm not as extreme. I Rp that my character needs to eat and drink at least once every day and sleep at least 8 hours every 3 days. I won't allow myself to use fast travel as well. Other than that I keep my char as simple as possible with armor until I am a certain level or did something or a few quests, For example not being able to wear Orcish armor until I did a few quest for the Orcish settlements, I imagine that they learn it to me to wear when I completed a lot of quests for them.

Whenever I bathe my character and take off their clothes, I don't just unequip them, I literally take them off and lay them by the riverside. Had a rather interesting encounter with a sabre cat once while doing that. Thank goodness I had a follower waiting nearby, though it was rather embarrassing for my character.

I like that idea about the armor. I might have to start doing that. I always wondered how certain armor and clothing changed styles depending on the gender of the wearer. Also, how all clothing seems to be one-size-fits-all. Maybe a Nord could only take armor from a similarly-built Nord, or an Altmer can't fit into clothes worn by a Bosmer.

Sometimes, I also stand in one spot for a few in-game minutes after equipping armor, since armor takes a while to put on in real life (especially if you don't have a squire helping you out).

I tried that game once. The graphics were pretty, but it needed way too much energy and processing power.

I roleplay plenty, but not with invisible bags of loot, LOL. Sounds pretty cool though.

  • Put a hood on when it's raining.
  • Pull out my map only in a dry spot when raining.

I do a lot more, but those are a couple of the hardcoe things I do.

I put on a hood when it rains too!

Sometimes my character will drink too much mead and will start punching people in the taverns.
