Is It or It's Not Cheating? (Need Opinions)

Post » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:53 pm

Hello my fellow community my name is Kyle and I just have some questions regarding to power level cretin skills in "Skyrim" like if it is cheating or is not.

1# ~ Is It or It's not cheating using Faendal to level up your archery to level 50 by doing the trick where you spend the money and then take it back and rinse and repeat?

2# ~ Is it or It's not cheating doing the trick with iron daggers to level up smiting faster, and as well for other such skills, enchanting, alchemy ETC?

Cannot think of any more right off the bat beside's the speech level trick in Riften, I just want to know your opinions I know some would argue it is cheating and some may argue its not.

P'S Sorry for bad grammar.

No, it's not cheating. It's a single player game. You cannot cheat yourself.

It depends upon how you define "cheating" I suppose- often, people call those methods "grinding your skills", thus it's not cheating per se- but maybe a bit "underhand". However, one can do whatever they want to on a RPG- there are no rules and regulations really.

Well one can argue that he's cheating himself out of the experience.

Its not cheating, but you might find yourself missing that you didn't level up through combat. Its your call.

First off, the fishy stick. http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/dogate_til_fishystick.jpg Have one.

I did that speech one once. You're playing a single player game, so even if it is cheating, you can cheat until the cows come home. It is more tedious to bother with grinding any skill, but that's just me... Have fun if you like to do that and all the other stuff you asked about.

Depends on how you look at it. At a technical level it's likely an exploit that was overlooked by the devs, from a RP perspective it seems reasonable that a "companion" would teach you archery for free.

Incidentally, I realized, rather belatedly, that you can pickpocket back money you spend on training (if you have decent PP skill)

2# ~ Is it or It's not cheating doing the trick with iron daggers to level up smiting faster, and as well for other such skills, enchanting, alchemy ETC?

Not sure what the "trick" with iron daggers is unless you mean just making a thousand daggers and maxing skill out. It wasn't at the time and you can't even do it anymore, your skill gains are tied to the value of the item so you would need to make an incalculable number of daggers to level up now.

All the skills have a "material" gate that can, to some degree, be mitigated by gold (and copious use of the "wait" command) so I don't see anything wrong with maximising your skill gains (getting sleep in your own bed/switching to the stone that govern's that skill).

My thoughts exactly. There are worse ways to cheat in this game, however.

Using the follower-trainer trick is helpful, if anything. But not cheating as you aren't taking advantage of a bug or glitch. The Oghma bug however, I consider to be cheating.

Thanks for that reply, one of the things I was thinking to myself, I have played this game before and done these things before but I want to start over again just starting play skyrin again and waiting for dawnguard to come out of pc.

Thanks for all other repleis I was shock to see how fast and how many people repied. Question if I want true experience should I not us any mods at all or just ones like no more blocky faces, and maybe few textures replacers, I was also thinking doing the monster wars mod. Anyways thanks for all the replies and hope to see more and help me with other questions.

There is no right way to play the TES games, but it is best to play the game unmodded first so you know it well and are able to enjoy it more modded.

By enjoying it more modded, I meant enjoying the little things that Bethesda overlooked.

As far as mods go I'd go with Steam Workshop for visuals. I don't use many mods, besides world-enhancement. So I can't really help ya there, mate.

I prefer mods that add more stuff to the game, personally. I find that the game's graphics are fine as is. The lower graphics settings just hurt my eyes a bit... Too many jaggies.

This.

And #2 where you level smithing with iron daggers got patched, so you're smithing will only go up by a very little bit when you do that.

Its a single player game so it is only cheating if you think it is.
Its your game.

Why wouldn't you make a poll?

Also, why powerlevel anything at all? it's not about powerleveling, you don't willfully go out and kill [censored] simply for the sake of leveling, do you, I mean nobody playing skyrim, in their right mind would try to go from 0-70 in a day or set some kind of goal to fulfill, there is no prestige in it. You may as well just use the console if you're powerleveling. But of course you are free to do what you want.

Is it cheating, no not really, but it is dumb.

Can you expalin what little things? I don't use big mods just small ones like some re-texture packs, maybe the dovkin hideout all tho i haven't tried the hideout yet and I have played this game before unmodded but never beat it, well i use some small mods but the most I made it was the quest u had to trap a dragon in whiterun and i never really got far into legion related quest.

Questions... everyone is here for... some... unfortunately... are less helpful than others... but... take it with a grain of salt and it'll all work itself out. As for mods for the PC and whether or not they'll affect your experience? Again, just like the original topic, it will alter the way you see the game. There are some "cheats" that I simply will not use... there are some... that I have... fudged a bit.. but usually only after countless hours spent finishing the game without them.

My wife and I have a rule in our house. Play the game through once without "using" anything... then go back and do whatever the *ell you want to.

I'm feeling generous.. have another! http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg
