Merchants can't afford my gear =(

Post » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:31 am

I have a bunch of old gear (daedric and dragonbone armor) that has some decent enchants on them, since theyre old I'm trying to sell them. I haven't been able to find a merchant how has anywhere near 5k gold for each item!
Am I missing a merchant or what can I do? I'm trying to avoid the speech perk tree and thieves guild questline on this char so if there is anything outside of things like that I would appreciate it!

Those are your only two options other than taking a loss on every item. I do feel your pain. I just grabbed the speech perks, invested in the dude at Riverwood that runs the general store, and sold, sold, sold!

- That is something I desperately wanted Bethesda to patch in. A big boost to merchant gold amounts in the bigger cities, like Solitude.
- I also realize that without the merchant perks, the speech tree is completely worthless. That's why I know that Bethesda will never up their gold amount.

No even with the Master Trader perk the most any merchant will have is roughly 2,500 gold. You'll just need to sell it for the maximum amount the vendor can give you, it won't really be a loss since you found it in the first place. Same thing happened in Oblivion with me all the time, I had items with a value of 12,000 gold that I had to sell for 1,200.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure without perks or mods, merchants who aren't fences usually only have around 1k.

No, it's with the Speech tree. I don't know if the 12k is intentional, but it's there.

I guess I'll go see how much money Lucan has real quick, I was afraid that I would have to give my stuff for that cheap =(

Bethesda also promised to not patch stuff that players found helpful. We still need to take perks and invest in order for him to have the 10,000+ gold, anyway.

it really is pointless for merchants to have a money limit cuz all u have to do is wait 48 hours and they have all their money back again.

It was probably part of their plans for a realistic economy in Skyrim, before that was largely cut from the game.

I was thinking the sawmills/farming/chopping wood were going to boost the economy of whatever hold you were in, giving the merchants more gold, at least temporarily. We may yet see that in an update/DLC, but I doubt it.

Its very likely your character is very high leveled, and is "lousy with gold" if you mind... go and buy everything they have in stock... like... leave your entire inventory but those daedric items you want to sell in a barrel, then buy their inventory, sell your weapons, and sell the items you just bought. I believe the haggle difference will catch up and you will probably get rid of the goods, and make a lot of speech level... won't get much money though.

Barter with them! (i.e, if they don't have enough gold, trade your items for anything they have that might be useful for you. Or at least is lighter/smaller/more valuable. Like, say, gems. Or ebony ingots.)

it really is pointless for merchants to have a money limit cuz all u have to do is wait 48 hours and they have all their money back again.

Some of us don't do the whole Wait/Reload thing. A bit too much metagaming/exploiting there.

I think if you do all the thieves guild side quests, fences should have 5k.

Edit : Just realised you said no thieves guild. My bad :P

Thieves guild smith could have around 5000 after finishing speech and thieves guild quests
You can also buy arrows and ingots to make up for more money.
You can also sell it to a merchant who is also a trader to increase their barter gold and get training
