On a scale of 1-10, how stupid am I?

Post » Mon Jul 09, 2012 4:46 am

10 being monumentally stupid, 1 being not that stupid.

I kept wondering why I had like 30 dragon shouts but only Unrelenting Force and Whirlwing Sprint actually worked. I had many theories. Perhaps I had to kill a certain type of dragon to unlock certain kinds of shouts (there are a few different types) and by sheer coincidence the 10 dragons or so that I had killed weren't the right type to unlock the 30 shouts I had.

Another theory was that the 30 shouts I had collected from word walls were higher level than me, I do tend to wander about a lot, and perhaps, if I had followed the storyline instead of wandering around, I would have picked up dragon shouts in the correct order for my level.

Yes, many theories ladies and gentlemen and today, after 131 hours of playing, I finally realized why I didn't have any shouts beyond FusRoDah and Vult. You have to actually unlock them manually by highlighting it and pressing R on the keyboard.

Well I'd say 0 , when you keep your game full of mystery it means that you actually play it.

Now after two completely different opinions on thematter, the first being 11 (out of the scale stupid) and one being 0 (out of the scale smart)... I'll have to say it's a clear 5.

only a 1.

Because there were a million threads right after Skyrim's release (not just on this forum either..haha) asking why shouts were all greyed out and didn't seem to work (and the answer was that you had to unlock them first).

This reminds me of both the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild in Oblivion. I had absolutely no idea that either of these guilds existed in the game until my friend started talking to me about the dark brotherhood quests. I generally play a good character so I never stumbled upon the quest line like I might have had I played an evil character who murders people. haha. That's what really made me love that game. There was an entire side of the game I hadn't even touched yet.

Anyway.. I'd go with a 3

No poll?

I'd say 3 because it was explained you needed to unlock shouts.

This was actually a not uncommon question when the game was released, people did not realise they needed to unlock shouts manually by spending souls. So I dont think it very stupid at all :)

I didn't know how to unlock shouts either, although only because I customized my controls, and the game said I had to push a different key that really was...had to go to the forum and ask for help.

So 1 :)

For more your information, I didn't know fast travel is exist until 200+ hours playing.
So, we're not stupid. We just not paying good attention carefully.

You're not stupid at all because you figured it out yourself. There have been a lot of people who had to be told how to make shouts work because they couldn't figure it out for themselves.

I didn't realize you could use Whirlwind Sprint to get to inaccessible places for Gods know how long.

I never knew it had much use until I found out it could get you to crazy places... I haven't tried yet, though.

0. It was not until recently I figured out you could name enchanted weapons, armor, etc. I never read the menu prompts along the bottom of the screen :-/
