Forced to be evil....

Post » Mon Jul 09, 2012 7:24 am

This is probably a topic somewhere but I looked through and couldn't find any. I'm in Riften and I've done about 30 hours in the game so far. Well pretty much all my quests are requiring me to join the thieves guild and help this person do some scandalous stuff. I'm trying to play through as absolute (Or darn close) good and don't want to do any evil quests, but the game is forcing me to. Is there a way to play through the ENTIRE game without doing bad?

maybe you should ask around town if your looking for esbern, maybe someone at the local inn could point you in the right direction (hint, hint)

Unless you don't wish to learn all the shouts then I'd say maybe you can, otherwise I'd say it's a pretty tall order.

Ok, then if there is no way to go through the entire game without doing bad things, I would like to suggest that Bethesda think about it during their next game. I get the realism and everything they are going for and life leading you to do undesirable things sometimes, but there is always a choice. And especially in games people like to play certain way's. i.e. not be bad, or not be good. Just a hint. Thanks guys. guess I'll just go the evil route a while.

I agree. In a game like this there should be multiple ways to complete objectives. It was nice that they gave us the option to destroy the Dark Brotherhood, but why stop there?

Let me stop the Thieves Guild, and Maven. IMO they're the people who really need stopping in this game. Or maybe Mjoll the Lioness will do it, and we'll read about it in a Lore book or something.

FWIW I've done every quest on my Assassin Chick except The Taste of Death and Boethiah's Calling and I don't consider her evil. :P

If a minor evil act leads to a major good outcome, then isn't the evil act worth doing? If by stealing one man's boots you can somehow prevent another man's death, than the end justifies the means. It's not at all impossible to be a paragon of morality in Skyrim: you have only to look at the bigger picture and be willing to get your hands dirty once in a while.

To use a real life example: dropping the A bomb on the Japanese probably saved millions of innocent lives at the expense of a couple hundred thousand. Was killing all those civilians evil? Most certainly. But in that case the ends most certainly justified the means and in turn, will be overall, a good act on an historical standpoint.

No. Unfortunately, there is no option to rid Skyrim of the thieves guild.

IMHO, this is a rather large oversight by Beth and should be fixed ...

You should play Black & White 2, because Skyrim doesn't let you being good.

While the A-bomb is certinly an example of the ends justifying the means and a damned good one.
I think there should be options in a game where the ends never justify the means. ala 1st ed D&D paladin.
